“It takes practice to get better. It's the same with Jesus' teachings. Some of us have studied the music for decades but have yet to play our first real note. We turn it into a fun little mind exercise trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together and we pride ourselves maybe that we know how it all works and hangs together. But the power of our faith lies in its performance.”

“``But here's the truth. I mean, so often this one hour a week contract is kinda how we treat our relationship with Jesus. We give him our Sunday morning hour. We we let his his letters to us sit untouched on our nightstand and we'll use his name when we're venting frustration. Someone's cut us off in traffic or something scares us. It just comes out. And we expect that he'll just deal with it because we know if there's one thing about Jesus we know, it's that he's forgiving. But Jesus didn't invite us into a contract. invited us to build a home.”

“But you wanna know what I've come to realize? The Christian life is meant to be lived. Jesus said to put away anger and sexual immorality, he meant it. He knew that it wouldn't be easy for us, but I think they are worthy goals to pursue. We we ought to learn to love one another, to provide for those in need, and to pray for our enemies. But these are not things that we do in order to gain God's approval or acceptance. We already have that because of what Jesus did. His death and His resurrection has put aside hostility between God and humanity. God is not angry with us at all. The Christian life is about knowing God better and becoming like Jesus.”

“You see we don't practice this way of life in order to please God. However, we practice it to foster intimacy with Him. Look at what Jesus is saying here. He's saying, I will show myself to the one who has my commands and keeps them. Our goal in obedience is more of Jesus. Again, God's not angry, He's holy. And we grow closer to Him by learning to live like Him.”
