#RootedInJesus
“So after four weeks of talking about spiritual warfare, maybe the question isn't how do I become really good at spiritual warfare? Maybe the question is how do I become really rooted in Jesus? Because the goal isn't for you to become fascinated with the enemy. The goal is for you to become so familiar with Jesus that you recognize what isn't him.”

#TruthOverLies
“Here's what makes deception so dangerous. Sometimes truth, there's just a teeny tiny bit of truth mixed Sometimes you really do feel alone or you really did fail or a person really did reject you or sometimes someone really did disappoint you. That's when the lie gets attached to the truth. You were hurt, so you stay bitter. You failed, so you're a failure. They rejected you, so you're unlovable. Something went horribly wrong. God cannot be trusted. The circumstances we face might be real, but the conclusions that we make do not have to be. That's why we need to know the truth.”

#ResistTheEnemy
“This is how you engage in personal spiritual warfare. We make it way more complicated than that, but resisting the enemy, again, doesn't have to look dramatic. It can look like refusing to believe the lie, refusing to nurture bitterness, refusing to isolate yourself, or refusing to let fear or shame make your decisions. Sometimes standing firm is saying, I will not go back there. I'm not doing that again.”

#SpiritualStability
“I love that Paul gives us this picture, and he repeats himself for people like me that need to hear what's more important more than one time. He says, stand, stand firm, stand your ground. Having done everything, stand. The goal is spiritual stability. We don't stand firm because we are strong enough. We stand firm because we're standing in Christ.”

#GodOverBusyness
“The enemy doesn't always have to deceive us. Sometimes he distracts us. Distraction does not have to look bad. It can be our work, our family, our responsibilities, our volunteer opportunities, our phones, our plans. I love a good plan. Can be really good things. Sometimes something does not have to be bad to pull us away from what is best. We can become so busy managing our lives that we stop paying attention to God in our lives.”

#DontGiveUp
“When we get discouraged, we stop expecting God to move. We stop praying. We stop believing. Change is possible. Sometimes discouragement doesn't make you run away from God. It just has you sit down. There are seasons when standing firm in the fight doesn't look like doing something dramatic. It just looks like refusing to quit. Keep praying. Keep showing up. Keep telling the truth. Keep asking for help. Keep turning back to Jesus. Sometimes spiritual warfare looks so ordinary. You just don't give up.”

#CheckTheBook
“If we want to learn to recognize truth, we must get God's word in us. Are you confused? Check the book. Are you afraid? Check the book. Are you lost? I have a book for you. Here's the thing. We can't discern God's truth if we are unfamiliar with God's word. We actually have to read it. Sometimes when our minds aren't clear, we make discernment much more complicated than it needs to be.”

#NoticeGod
“We can be so consumed by what's happening around us that we stop noticing what's happening within We can be so caught up responding to everyone else's needs that we never slow down enough to say, Jesus, what are you doing in me? Sometimes that's all distraction has to accomplish. Distraction does not need to make you hate God. It does not need to make you reject God. It just needs to make you too distracted to notice God.”
