The gospel message that Paul preached to the Galatians was not a product of human invention but a divine revelation. Paul emphasizes that his apostleship was not granted by human decision but by the calling of Jesus Christ and God the Father. This divine authority underscores the importance of respecting and adhering to the gospel as the ultimate truth. The message of the gospel is not subject to human alteration or interpretation; it is a sacred truth that demands our full attention and obedience. In a world where many voices claim authority, recognizing the divine origin of the gospel helps us discern truth from falsehood. [08:38]
Galatians 1:11-12 (ESV): "For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ."
Reflection: In what ways can you prioritize the divine authority of the gospel in your daily decisions and interactions with others?
Day 2: The True Gospel vs. A Different Gospel
The Galatians were being led astray by teachings that distorted the true gospel of Christ. Paul warns against turning to a different gospel, which is not centered on the death and resurrection of Jesus but on human works and merit. This distinction is crucial for maintaining the purity of the Christian faith. The true gospel is a message of grace, emphasizing that salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn. By understanding and embracing the true gospel, we safeguard our faith against false teachings that can lead us away from the truth. [17:40]
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (ESV): "But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough."
Reflection: How can you ensure that your understanding of the gospel remains true and undistorted by external influences?
Day 3: Offense to Human Pride
The gospel challenges human pride by declaring our need for rescue and our inability to save ourselves. It is a message that requires humility, as it acknowledges that salvation is entirely a work of God. This can be offensive to those who rely on their own efforts and achievements. Accepting God's grace means recognizing our limitations and surrendering to His will. By humbling ourselves, we open our hearts to the transformative power of the gospel, allowing God's grace to work in and through us. [26:47]
James 4:6 (ESV): "But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'"
Reflection: What areas of your life are you holding onto out of pride, and how can you invite God's grace to transform them today?
Day 4: Exclusivity of the Gospel
Paul's strong language about false gospels highlights the exclusivity of the true gospel. In a world that values pluralism and diversity, this message challenges us to hold fast to the truth of Christ as the only way to salvation. The gospel is not just another option among many; it is the only true rescue from the present evil age. By embracing the exclusivity of the gospel, we affirm our commitment to the truth and our desire for others to experience the salvation that only Jesus can offer. [30:45]
Acts 4:12 (ESV): "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Reflection: How can you lovingly communicate the exclusivity of the gospel to those who may hold different beliefs?
Day 5: Courage to Uphold the Gospel
In a culture that often opposes the gospel, we are called to stand firm in love and truth. Upholding the gospel requires courage, as it may contradict societal norms and challenge prevailing cultural values. By trusting in the truth of the gospel, we can confidently share the life-giving message of Jesus Christ with a world in desperate need of salvation. This courage is rooted in love, as we desire for others to experience the transformative power of the gospel in their lives. [39:15]
Ephesians 6:19-20 (ESV): "And also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak."
Reflection: What specific steps can you take this week to boldly share the gospel with someone in your life?
Sermon Summary
In our journey through the book of Galatians, we begin by exploring the profound message that Paul delivers to the churches in the region of Galatia. This letter, written by Paul after his first missionary journey, addresses a critical issue: the Galatians are turning away from the true gospel to a different one. Paul, an apostle not by human appointment but by divine calling, emphasizes the authority and authenticity of his message, which comes directly from Jesus Christ and God the Father.
Paul's concern is not trivial; the Galatians are being swayed by teachings that distort the gospel of Christ. This is not a mere theological debate but a matter of spiritual life and death. The true gospel, as Paul outlines, is centered on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a message of grace, not of human effort or merit. The gospel offends human pride because it declares our need for rescue, our inability to save ourselves, and that salvation is entirely a work of God, not of human achievement.
Paul's strong language underscores the seriousness of the issue. He warns that even if an angel from heaven were to preach a different gospel, they should be accursed. This highlights the exclusivity and non-negotiable nature of the gospel message. In a world that celebrates diversity and pluralism, this message challenges the prevailing cultural norms. Yet, it is not out of narrow-mindedness but out of a deep love for truth and a desire for people to be truly saved.
The gospel is not just another option among many; it is the only true rescue from the present evil age. As we delve deeper into Galatians, we are called to examine our own understanding of the gospel and to stand firm in the truth, even when it contradicts the spirit of the age. This requires courage and love, as we seek to share the life-giving message of Jesus Christ with a world in desperate need of salvation.

Sermon Clips
Paul, an apostle not from men nor through man but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead, and all the brethren who are with me to the churches of Galatia, grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. [00:46:04]
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel, which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. [01:15:40]
Paul starts off Paul, an apostle by the way that's how they wrote letters back then you know when we write a letter today we say dear so and so we start out with who we're sending the letter to in the ancient world they started out with who was writing the letter which makes sense you shouldn't wait to get all the way to the end of the letter before you know who's writing it to you and he says Paul, and he says an apostle do you know what an apostle is, an apostle is a special ambassador of Jesus Christ. [00:49:21]
Paul knows that our Christian life is founded on the grace of God, and on having peace with God. Do you know what I think is wonderful about this you'll never ever find it where Paul says peace and grace to you, it's always grace and peace for Paul, grace always comes before peace, you always receive the grace of God before you have peace with God. [00:59:36]
What did Jesus do for us that Paul describes in verse 4, he gave himself for our sins the first thing that Paul says about Jesus is that Jesus gave himself for our sins and this blows my mind because Paul can't get two sentences in his letter without talking about Jesus and what Jesus did for us on the cross, that's what it all comes back to it's what Jesus did for us on the cross, that's what's important that Jesus gave himself for us. [01:09:36]
Friends I want you to consider that just for a moment, Jesus Christ gave himself for your sins as a sacrifice as an atonement for your sins there is not a single person in this room who needs to be burdened by the stain or the guilt or the penalty of your sin, Jesus Christ gave himself for your sin, you know what that means, sin does not need to disqualify a single person from the kingdom of God it doesn't. [01:23:59]
Now we live in a present evil age don't we, and this is where it gets a little bit testy, because in the next few verses Paul is going to declare some ideas that really run contrary to the thinking of this present evil age, you know our culture our society our world has a way that they think doesn't it and what Paul is going to share in the next few verses I guess I'm a little nervous sharing this not because I'm ashamed not because I don't believe it. [01:39:56]
It's not just that you're turning away but so soon I thought you would have run fine for a few years at least but already you're beginning to get off course and if you continue along this way it's going to be ruined for you, notice this too Paul says that they're turning away from what well first of all they're turning away from him, who's the hymn that they're turning away from, Jesus Christ. [01:45:55]
Friends this other gospel wasn't a real gospel at all, it was a perversion of the gospel of Jesus Christ it was a distortion, it was something, a mutation of the real a mutation of the true, and Paul says they're here and they want to pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ, but they're really just bringing you trouble they're here to trouble you, it's not good news which by the way that's what the word gospel means good news Paul says this isn't good news it's bad news it's different but it's not good. [02:16:17]
The message of the gospel is the message is about what Jesus did to rescue you, not what you have to do to rescue yourself, we believe in that and we trust in that, some of you saying okay I understand that but I'm not following you, what possibly in that is offensive to human nature, I'll tell you what's offensive about it, first of all the message of the true gospel offends our pride, it offends our pride right at the beginning because it looks at us square in the eye and it says, you need to be rescued. [02:37:56]
Paul says that this different gospel is not another but there's some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ but then he brings it out here in verse 8 he says but even if we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you let him be accursed as we've said before so now I say again if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you've received let him be a curse friends does that sound like strong language. [02:56:05]
Friends we do believe that any other gospel is wrong, it's not wrong because it goes against what I believe who cares what I believe, but it's wrong because it goes against the bible, and we don't say this because we're narrow-minded bigots who love sending people to hell we say this because we honor what Jesus Christ did on the cross, think of it now, night before Jesus was betrayed and he's there in the garden of gethsemane kneeling down praying to his father in heaven. [03:24:02]
