Like Kimberly’s discounted chairs filling God’s house, our peculiarities become kingdom currency when surrendered. [18:38]

Sermon Summary

Peter’s call in 1 Peter 3:15 begins with the heart before it ever reaches the mouth: “sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.” Testimony is not something a Christ follower has to search for, negotiate, or try to manufacture. Testimony flows from a real condition in Christ, from building memories, doing life, and walking in relationship with Jesus.

The old “stand up and testify” moments in church were really a dress rehearsal for Monday. The witness given among believers should also flow around the water cooler, in the classroom, in the neighborhood, and wherever life happens. Relationship makes testimony natural. A person who has spent years loving a spouse, raising children, or enjoying grandkids does not struggle to find words, and a growing relationship with Christ should likewise give a believer something real to say.

Christ’s Great Commission turns Mission Impossible into “Commission Possible.” Christ sends His people into a high stakes, global rescue mission that impacts eternity: go, make disciples, baptize, and teach. The church cannot live with a “come and see” mindset when Christ’s command is to go. Baptism cannot remain a spectator sport, and discipleship cannot remain the responsibility of church leaders alone.

Peter’s command holds positional sanctification and progressive sanctification together. Positional sanctification sets Christ apart as Lord, honors Him as God over all things, and makes Him first. Progressive sanctification learns to live the Book of all books, becoming more like Christ and taking up His assignment. A confession without a biblical worldview leaves too many people claiming Christ while failing to follow Him.

The question “Why are you on this planet?” brings everything into focus. Family, work, travel, money, influence, and good causes are not necessarily wrong, but every one of them must filter through the call to impact eternity. Christianity is not merely a transaction that punches a ticket to heaven. Christianity is an assignment given to those Christ leaves on earth because spouses, children, coworkers, neighbors, and nations still need to encounter Him.

The contrast between getting people into heaven and getting heaven into people deepens the commission. Impacting eternity means making disciples who make disciples, not merely pursuing a moment after death. Christ calls believers to stop merely maintaining moments and start multiplying moments for eternity. The heart that sanctifies Christ as Lord becomes ready to stand up and testify.
