Spring: A Symbol of Resurrection and Renewed Faith

Summary

In this gathering, we explore the profound symbolism of spring as a metaphor for resurrection and renewal. As the world awakens from the grip of winter, we are reminded of the hope and promise of new beginnings, much like the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This season of renewal invites us to reflect on the transformative power of the resurrection, which is the cornerstone of our faith. The resurrection is not just a historical event but a present reality that holds the power to transform our lives now and forever.

We delve into the story of Thomas, often labeled as "Doubting Thomas," to understand the nature of doubt in our spiritual journey. Thomas, despite being one of the twelve disciples, struggled with doubt when he heard of Jesus' resurrection. His story is a reminder that doubt is a natural part of faith. It is not a sign of weakness but an opportunity for deeper belief. Thomas' demand for evidence reflects our own desire for tangible proof in a world where skepticism is prevalent. Yet, Jesus' response to Thomas, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed," challenges us to trust in the testimony of those who witnessed the resurrection.

We are encouraged to confront our doubts rather than ignore them. Doubt can be a doorway to a deeper relationship with God if we choose to explore it. The evidence of the resurrection is abundant, not only in the historical accounts but also in the transformed lives of those who have encountered the risen Christ. As we approach Easter, we are reminded to stand confidently in the truth of the resurrection, knowing that it is not a fairy tale but a reality supported by historical evidence.

Day 1: Spring as a Metaphor for Resurrection and Renewal
The arrival of spring is a powerful symbol of resurrection and renewal, mirroring the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As nature awakens from the dormancy of winter, we are reminded of the hope and promise of new beginnings. This season invites us to reflect on the transformative power of the resurrection, which is not just a historical event but a present reality that can transform our lives. The resurrection offers us a chance for personal renewal, encouraging us to embrace new opportunities and growth in our spiritual journey. [01:27]

"For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land." (Song of Solomon 2:11-12, ESV)

Reflection: What is one area of your life that feels dormant or stagnant? How can you invite God to bring renewal and growth in that area this spring?

Day 2: Embracing Doubt as a Path to Deeper Faith
Doubt is a natural part of our faith journey, as illustrated by the story of Thomas, who struggled to believe in the resurrection without tangible proof. Rather than viewing doubt as a weakness, it can be an opportunity for deeper belief if we choose to explore it. Thomas' experience reminds us that questioning and seeking understanding can lead to a stronger, more resilient faith. By confronting our doubts, we open ourselves to a more profound relationship with God, trusting in His presence even when we cannot see it. [06:57]

"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, 'I believe; help my unbelief!'" (Mark 9:24, ESV)

Reflection: What is a specific doubt or question you have about your faith? How can you seek answers and understanding in a way that strengthens your relationship with God today?

Day 3: The Role of Evidence in Strengthening Faith
While we may not have witnessed the resurrection firsthand, the testimony of those who did provides us with ample evidence to believe. The historical accounts and transformed lives of believers serve as powerful witnesses to the truth of the resurrection. This evidence invites us to trust in the reality of the resurrection, empowering us to stand confidently in our faith. As we approach Easter, we are reminded that our belief is not based on fairy tales but on a reality supported by historical evidence. [17:20]

"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1, ESV)

Reflection: How can you use the evidence of transformed lives around you to strengthen your faith in the resurrection? Who in your life exemplifies the transformative power of Christ's resurrection?

Day 4: Exploring Doubts to Deepen Your Relationship with God
God is not afraid of our doubts. Instead of ignoring them, we are encouraged to explore them, seeking answers and understanding. This exploration can lead to a more profound and intimate relationship with God. By addressing our doubts, we allow ourselves to grow in faith and trust, knowing that God welcomes our questions and desires to reveal Himself to us. Embracing doubt as a part of our spiritual journey can lead to a deeper, more authentic faith. [22:26]

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7, ESV)

Reflection: What is one doubt or question you have been hesitant to explore? How can you take a step today to seek understanding and deepen your relationship with God?

Day 5: Confidence in the Truth of the Resurrection
As believers, we can stand confidently in the truth of the resurrection, knowing it is supported by historical evidence. This confidence empowers us to share the message of the risen Christ with boldness and assurance. The resurrection is not just a past event but a present reality that transforms lives. By embracing this truth, we are called to live out our faith with courage and conviction, sharing the hope and promise of new life with those around us. [24:55]

"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." (1 Corinthians 15:20, ESV)

Reflection: How can you share the message of the resurrection with someone in your life this week? What steps can you take to live out your faith with greater confidence and boldness?

Quotes

The landscape the trees all of it is is literally going to resurrect It's because the Bible says that all of creation cries out in worship And this time of year all creation is just testifying to the resurrection of Jesus Christ So hope is over the horizon. [00:01:44]

And last week we we kind of said there there's two polar opposite places when it comes to the resurrection Right if Jesus isn't alive if he did stay dead right he didn't conquer the grave If that's true then what we're doing right now is just a giant waste of time right my preaching and your faith is useless if Jesus is dead because he is kind of the lynch pin. [00:03:21]

And so we see what what Thomas is wrestling with here He he's kind of like us this time of year He's teetering back and forth He he he wants to believe his closest friends I want to believe Jesus is alive but his doubt just pulls him back to the reality People don't come back from death There's no way I got to see it to believe it guys. [00:06:25]

And honestly when it comes to like Thomas's story on Easter I I feel like Thomas gets a really bad reputation right when it comes to Easter what is Thomas known as is doubting Thomas And yet what's interesting is all the other people before him who saw Jesus doubted he was raised from the dead. [00:07:14]

The first thing that I think breeds doubt into our spiritual journey is called comparison It's when we compare our spiritual journey to somebody else's It happens like this right there's a lot of times in our life where we want God to come through for us We're praying We're seeking God And and and we're praying for God to provide or heal. [00:08:32]

And I think a lot of people today can resonate because some of you today you're praying for God to come through for you And maybe it's been longer than a week already It's been a year five years and you're like "Come on God I need you to show up I need you to come through." And I just want to remind you today that God's timing is always perfect. [00:13:00]

And what I think often happens is we stop the story right there We're like "Wow this is amazing." But look what Jesus says next It says "Then Jesus told him." All of you in the room he's speaking to his disciples He says "Because you have seen me you have believed That's easy Who wouldn't believe but then I think he speaks to us thousands of years later. [00:15:51]

You see what Jesus does thousands of years before us is he speaks rightly right to us He says "Listen you don't have to see to believe You You don't have to have all the evidence in the world to trust in me You can have the same faith Thomas and the disciples and Mary had in my resurrection without having to be there for it. [00:16:26]

The greatest piece of evidence that Jesus did rise from the dead are the eyewitnesses who were there And so the only thing we can do as detectives is say "Okay okay there were eyewitnesses right there were people there How do we know they're trustworthy how do we know that that these people weren't just lunatics crazy and they just made up this whole story. [00:18:52]

And yet every person who said "I saw Jesus they gave up their lives so that you and I could hear the news that Jesus is alive." Amen In fact look what John says One of the eyewitnesses who wrote the book of John a disciple he says this at the end of his book for you and I He says Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples. [00:20:09]

So today if you have doubts it's normal God's not afraid of it Seek him in your doubts And I promise you the Bible says Jesus says to you he says "When you seek me you will find me." And so I believe this with my whole heart There is no doubt that we'll be victorious for a tenacious search for Jesus So go after it. [00:24:26]

As Christians we can be confident in the evidence of the resurrection Right we don't believe in some fantasy fairy tale that makes us feel good certain seasons of the day No no no no no There is a whole bunch of evidence historical and archaeologists point to the fact that Jesus is alive That he did conquer the grave He did defeat death.
