#TrustOverAnswers
“If God knows, then that's good enough for me. And I meant it. But I said it not because I was full of faith. I said it because I knew where the incessant questioning would lead me, and I knew that the insistent to insistence to know all the answers would lead me to bad places. I had been there, and I didn't want to go back there again.”

#AnchorInScripture
“So in the wilderness, we can rely on God's word to sustain us. If Jesus relied on God's word to sustain him, we can rely on God's word to sustain us. What Ben was talking about, you know, in in growing, in praying, and reading of scripture, that is so important. And memorizing scripture. I found myself in situations where my brain has ceased to function, but the scriptures that I have memorized anchored me. Right? When you don't want to read scripture in the wilderness is when you need scripture the most. So rely on scripture, depend on scripture.”

#FeelingsToFaith
“David was very honest with his pain and struggles and questions, he always ended his songs with praise and choosing to trust God. You see, our feelings are a gift from God. It lets us know what's really happening inside of us. It's important that we don't ignore our feelings. David showed us how to feel our feelings but choose to trust God's promises. I don't think he felt the faith all the time, you know. I think it was a choice. I mean, you can hear the anguish, and then the sudden turn. Every time in the psalm, he would go, but, and then he turns it to faith. In the wilderness, we too need to feel our feelings, be honest about them, but choose to trust God's truth.”

#HonestNotGrumbling
“I want to give us a caution here. We can be honest with God, but we must guard against grumbling or complaining. There is honesty, and then there is grumbling. Many of the Israelites grumbled, and they rebelled, and they died. Just saying. Grumbling comes from a sense of entitlement, pride, and ingratitude. We can be totally honest with God. He wants us to, but be careful not to grumble or be irreverent because he is a holy God. So let's follow David's example, be totally raw and honest, but always ground ourselves in the truth of who God is. The wilderness is not fun. In the wilderness, our resources are very limited, we are exposed and isolated, but scripture shows us again and again that God looks after us in the wilderness. So the second thing to consider is dependence, depending on God in our wilderness journey. Lastly, hope. Don't despair.”

#TrustInMystery
“Over the next twenty one years, I fell pregnant another time and quickly miscarried again. My body is still unable to bear children, but please don't bear pray that I will bear children. I'm too old now. Don't want And yet, all the way, God showed me his love in big and small ways. If we are to have a lifelong journey of faith with following Jesus in an authentic, beautiful, intimate, loving, faith filled way, while we have many beautiful promises in the Bible to stand on, we also need to accept that there will be mystery. We need to allow God that.”

#WildernessToNewSeason
“My wilderness of infertility led us to the adoption of our three gorgeous children. Remember the two times God told me to quit my job and wait for him for direction? One time it lasted almost a year, and both times, I walked out of the season of wilderness into a new super exciting ministry role. If you're in the wilderness now, I wonder what God has in store for you and what he is preparing you for. So instead of despair, choose curiosity and excitement for what's ahead.”

#DontWalkAlone
“A sure way to keep yourself hopeful and not despair laden is to never walk alone in the wilderness. Invite others in. Let others know what you're going through. People who will pray for you and encourage you. Invite and allow others to speak into you, and when they encourage you this is important when they encourage you, receive it, believe it.”

#SharedHealingJourney
“Last year, my dear friend, who walked through an intense time of wilderness, it was terrible, debilitating anxiety for months, rendering her unable to sleep or even eat. Losing 25 kilos, she felt like she was going to die. She didn't know if this would ever end, but she invited many in. She was honest. We cried with her, we agonized with her, we prayed for her, we encouraged her. Praise God, she has finally walked out of that time, and now she is encouraging others in their wilderness journey. Never walk alone.”
