#SurrenderNotBelief
“``To truly be freedom, to truly experience freedom from these things that plagued your mind, that cause you to act inappropriately with other people, that cause you to act out in so many sinful ways whether they build your pocketbook or they tear down your life, it doesn't matter. These things that cause all of these sinful actions in your life, the key to it is recognizing that the key to Christianity is not belief. Say, we sold everybody on that for years that you just have to believe, you just have to believe, you just have to believe. Well, if you understand what the biblical word that's translated as believe means, yeah. If you understand what the word believe meant when we first started translating into the English stuff context, then, yeah, that that would work, but not how we use it today. Now the core principle of Christianity is surrender, not belief. It's not about just acknowledging that Jesus is God, but it's about full surrender to him being king, him being on the throne, canceling all our decrees, allowing his decrees to be made known. Whatever he reveals, we follow that path and we repent of those things because we couldn't possibly be the one in the right if we're there with God.”

#FillWithHolySpirit
“When we get rid of the demonic influences in our lives, it does us absolutely no good to get rid of them if we do not fill the vacuum with the Holy Spirit to make sure we are full of God. Those I am statements I gave to you a few weeks ago, read over them. Remind yourself who you are. Read the word. Get involved in worship. Worship is not something that happens here. Worship is something that should happen wherever you go. Worship is not something where music is necessary. Worship is turning our hearts to God. Music can help. It seems to help us all, you worship without music. You can worship in the garden. You can worship on hilltop by yourself with no instruments and no voice to sing with. You can worship in any way that as long as it turns your heart to who God truly is. God is in command and we know that his army wins all the battles.”

#LetGoAndRepent
“And why didn't I just let go of? Has anybody ever grabbed an electric fence before? If you don't let go within an instant, and I mean before your fingers get wrapped around, your muscles lock in and you can't do it. Maybe if you're older, you can. When I'm four or five, and I'm just hanging on. I'm just going and luckily, it's not powerful enough to really do damage or any I don't know. It might that might be part of my problem. I don't know. May have fried my brain a little bit, but they have to come over and pry my fingers off of. Because sometimes we hold on to things that are incredibly damaging to us because we don't know any other way. And repentance means deciding that what God says about something is accurate even if we don't feel it, see it, or even agree with it. We just decide, okay, it's the best. That's that's what we're gonna go with.”

#ChooseHumilityNotPride
“So here's an idea. Stop fighting the enemies that you see. Back up and allow humility to enter your life and recognize that it's not your ability that's gonna get it done. It's God's ability, and it's his direction and his guidance. We're going to have to have humility though because I find that of all of these things that we deal with, you know what's in the center of that onion? It's not smoking cigarettes, by the way. You know what's in the center of the onion for us all? Pride and control. Just about every sinful action, attitude, or thought that anyone of us has is somehow rooted in pride or control. They seem to breed all sorts of evil in our lives. And so humility is gonna be necessary that we humble ourselves before God, allow him to guide us and direct us and what he says to be true.”

#AskForRevelation
“There's a better way, and the better way is to listen to your commanding officers tell you, take out that that bunker up on the hill. That's the one firing at you. Take out that sniper over there because it's not just a bunch of soldiers randomly firing at you. They're coordinated and there are folks that are gonna shoot you before you can shoot everyone of the enemy. And so what you really need is revealed knowledge from the commander in chief of who to attack first. And so before we even get to repentance, the first step is to ask for God to reveal. It's really easy to remember because all four of these start with an r. The first one is reveal. We're asking for God's clarity on the situation.”

#ChooseForgiveness
“What would be an agreement that we might need to break it down? Oftentimes, I hear people say, one thing I can promise you is I'm not gonna forgive them. Okay. Then you won't. You know it's wrong to hold on forgiveness. You know that you need to, but you've decided at some point someone made you feel powerless and out of control because of what they did. And so the only way for you to gain power and control in the situation was to hold anger and unforgiveness against them. That's not hurting them. They're three states away or they passed away twenty years ago. It's not hurting them, but you're holding on to it because it makes you feel powerful. Maybe one of the agreements that we've decided is if I forgive them, then it's somehow giving license to what they did. It's saying that what they did was okay. That's not what forgiveness is. That didn't mean that what they did was okay. It just means you're not gonna let it poison your life anymore.”

#MoreAheadThanBehind
“If you've been walking with God for forty, fifty, sixty years, some of you are gonna set some records beyond that, seventy years maybe. However long you've been working, walking with God, I want you to hear something today. There's more. There's more freedom. There's more joy. There's more goodness of God to celebrate in your life. There's more that lies ahead of you. And if you can believe it, there is more that lies ahead of you than lies behind you. Because while we celebrate this freedom, and I say walking with Christ for seventy years for some of you even, maybe even eighty years, That sounds like a long time.”

#FreedomInChrist
“But even when we recognize those freedoms, we have to recognize that we have a much greater freedom brought to us by Jesus. We have the freedom over sin and death. We have the freedom that we no longer have to live the way we once did. And so when we come this morning and we celebrate holy communion, we in a small part celebrate the freedom that God gave us as his son hung on the cross, was crucified dead and buried and on the third day he arose from the dead. That's only a small part of the celebration of communion. You know what the majority of it is? It's forward looking. It's at the freedom yet to come to us, the ways in which we have yet to celebrate and experience that freedom that is available for us.”
