Every Workman knows the necessity of keeping his Tools in a good state of repair, for if the iron be blunt and he do not wet The Edge then must he put to more strength if the workmen lose the Edge from his ads he knows that there will be a greater draft upon his energies or his work will be badly done. [00:00:17]

It will be in vain for me to stock my library or organize Societies or project schemes if I neglect the culture of myself, for books and agencies and systems are only remotely the instruments of my holy calling my own Spirit soul and body are my nearest machinery for sacred service my spiritual faculties in my inner life are my battle acts and weapons of war. [00:02:42]

A man in all other respects fitted to be useful made by some small defect be exceedingly hindered or even rendered utterly useless. Such a result is all the more Grievous because it is associated with the gospel which in the highest sense is adapted to affect the grandest results it is a terrible thing when the healing bomb loses its efficacy through the blunderer who administers it. [00:05:06]

It should be one of our first cares that we ourselves be saved men, that a teacher of the Gospel should first be a partaker of it is a simple truth but at the same time a rule of the most weighty importance. We are not among those who accept the apostolical succession of young men simply because they assume it. [00:07:21]

How horrible to be a preacher of the gospel and yet to be unconverted. Let each man here whisper to his inmost soul what a Dreadful thing it will be for me if I should be ignorant of the power of the truth which I am preparing to Proclaim. Unconverted Ministry involves the most unnatural relationships a graceless Pastor is a blind man elected to a professorship of Optics. [00:09:40]

The life of the preacher should be a magnet to draw men to Christ and it is sad indeed when it keeps them from him. Sanctity in ministers is allowed call to Sinners to repent, and when allied with holy cheerfulness it becomes wondrously attractive. Jeremy Taylor in his own Rich language tells us herod's doves could never have invited so many strangers to their dovecoats. [00:42:35]

The spiritual health of a minister is crucial for effective ministry. Just as a craftsman maintains his tools, ministers must cultivate their inner life to ensure their spiritual faculties are in good order. This alignment with Christ is essential for fruitful ministry. [00:00:17]

The dangers of ministerial life are numerous, and the enemy targets those in leadership. Ministers must be vigilant, ensuring their personal character aligns with their ministry, as a life inconsistent with their message can lead to great harm. [00:33:24]

Holiness is essential for those in ministry. Our lives should draw others to Christ, not keep them away. Integrity in both public and private life is crucial for maintaining trust and respect, and even small matters can have significant implications for our ministry. [00:41:34]

The minister must not fail. His private life must ever keep good tune with his ministry or his day will soon set with him and the sooner he retires the better, for his continuance in his office will only dishonor the cause of God and ruin himself. [00:51:40]

The highest moral character must be sedulously maintained. Many are disqualified for office in the church who are well enough as simple members. I hold very Stern opinions with regard to Christian men who have fallen into gross sin. I Rejoice that they may be truly converted and may be with mingled hope and caution received into the church. [00:47:50]

The minister take care that his personal character agrees in all respects with his ministry. We have all heard the story of the man who preached so well and lived so badly that when he was in the Pulpit everybody said he ought never to come out again, and when he was out of it they all declared he never ought to enter it again. [00:36:14]
