Romans 12:1-8Verse 1: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I have no need of you.’ On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”

- What words and actions does Paul connect with true worship in Romans 12:1-2?

Interpretation questions
- Romans 12:1 begins with “therefore” and appeals to God’s mercies. How does God’s mercy toward sinners change the reason believers offer their whole lives to God rather than trying to earn his approval? [00:34]
- What does “sober judgment” look like for a believer who is tempted either to feel superior because of a visible gift or inferior because another person seems more gifted? [06:42]

- Where are you most tempted to make life revolve around your immediate needs, comfort, image, or plans? What could it look like this week to offer that area to God as a living sacrifice? [01:17]

- Is there an area where you may be overfunctioning because you feel responsible to make everything work? Could your frustration be pointing to a place where God has gifted someone else to serve? What is one burden you could share rather than control? [12:42]
- What is one ability or kind of service that others have consistently affirmed in you? Where might that ability help build up the body of Christ rather than only advance your work or personal goals? [17:20]
- What need is right in front of you that may not match your preferred gift or role—hospitality, generosity, practical service, prayer, truth-telling, or mercy? What would humble obedience look like in that need this week? [16:34]
- Jesus is the head of the church, so no individual has to do everything or control everything. What pressure do you need to release to Jesus, and what faithful “part” is he inviting you to do with joy? #!!32:49!!
