Our struggle is not against the visible problems or people we encounter in our daily lives. It is against an unseen spiritual enemy who seeks to steal our peace, joy, and faith. This adversary operates in the heavenly realms, applying pressure and creating invisible barriers against God's purposes for us. Understanding this reality is the first step to living a life of victory, not victimhood. We must be aware that a real battle is being waged for our hearts and minds every single day. [43:44]
Ephesians 6:12 (NASB)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Reflection: In what specific area of your life have you recently felt an "invisible barrier" or unusual pressure that goes beyond typical circumstances? How might recognizing this as a spiritual battle change the way you respond to it?
Many believers live as if they are attending a celebration when they are actually on a battlefield. They are dressed for peace, not for the spiritual conflict that surrounds them. This lack of readiness leaves them vulnerable to heartache, pain, and the enemy's attacks. God provides a complete set of armor designed for our protection and victory in this unseen war. Staying ready by putting on this armor daily is not an option, but a necessity for a resilient and effective Christian life. [47:43]
Ephesians 6:11 (NASB)
Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
Reflection: What does your daily "getting ready" routine look like, and how intentionally does it include preparing your heart and mind with the spiritual armor God has provided?
Truth is the essential piece that holds everything else together; without it, our spiritual life falls apart. In a culture that often treats truth as subjective, we must cling to the objective, unchanging truth of God's Word, which provides a reliable standard for our lives. Furthermore, our hearts must be guarded by the breastplate of Christ's righteousness, which protects us from the enemy's attacks of shame and condemnation. This righteousness is not our own flawed efforts, but a gift from Jesus that gives us confidence and security. [59:30]
Ephesians 6:14 (NASB)
Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.
Reflection: When a thought of shame or condemnation comes to mind, what specific truth from Scripture can you use to remind your heart that you are covered by Christ's righteousness?
The gospel gives us an unfair advantage: a peace that remains steady even when our circumstances are chaotic. This peace with God and the peace of God allow us to stand firm, like a house built on a rock, when the storms of life rage around us. Along with peace, our faith acts as a strong, durable shield that can extinguish every lie and attack the enemy launches our way. This faith is not a heavy burden but is light, mobile, and big enough to strengthen both us and those around us. [01:00:22]
Ephesians 6:15-16 (NASB)
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Reflection: Where is one situation causing you anxiety right now, and what would it look like to actively choose to stand on the gospel of peace there, rather than being overwhelmed by the turmoil?
Our minds need protection from the enemy's attacks on our security and identity, which is found in the helmet of our salvation through Christ alone. Our primary offensive weapon is not our own intelligence or resources, but the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. We are called to know it, love it, and use it to combat the enemy's lies and deceptions. Ultimately, being fully armed does not mean we are to charge into battle alone, but to stand firm in our position and pray, relying on God's power to secure the victory. [01:18:31]
Ephesians 6:17-18 (NASB)
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.
Reflection: What is one specific lie you frequently battle, and which verse from Scripture can you wield as a sword to directly counter that attack when it comes?
Ephesians 6 presents the Christian life as a real, unseen battlefield where the enemy wages war not with tanks or swords but against minds, hearts, and hopes. Scripture urges believers to put on the full armor of God so daily life does not become a slow unraveling under pressure. Truth functions like a soldier’s belt, holding every piece of spiritual life together; objective, external truth steadies judgment when personal experience misleads. Righteousness serves as a breastplate that guards the heart from shame’s fatal strikes, and that righteousness comes from Christ, not from moral performance.
The gospel supplies shoes fitted with the readiness of peace, an unfair advantage that allows standing firm amid storms because reconciliation with God and the indwelling Spirit create internal calm irrespective of external chaos. Faith operates as a multilayered, portable shield—strong, light, communal, and soaked in water so that fiery attacks extinguish on contact. Salvation secures the mind like a helmet, locating ultimate security in Christ alone rather than in fickle practices or good deeds. The Word of God functions as the offensive sword, the tested, precise weapon for discerning and countering enemy distortions and temptations.
Preparation matters: military metaphors underline constant readiness, not occasional scrambling. Staying ready means training, maintaining equipment, and living in rhythms of truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and Scripture so that when trials arrive, standing and prayer—not impulsive charging—become the faithful posture. The final charge emphasizes vigilance in prayer, intercession for others, and dependence on the Spirit, framing spiritual warfare as sustained, Spirit-powered standing rather than self-driven conquest. An invitation to receive Christ appears as the fundamental way to don this armor—salvation enters the life and resources the believer needs to stand firm in the unseen conflict.
It's when you are tired and you go to bed at night and you wake up in the morning tired all the more. Because the battlefield is your dreams. There's a battle for your peace. There's a battle for your joy. There there's not a soldier charging the front lines of your home. There may not be tanks rolling up into your place of business, but there is a spiritual battle against your joy. There is a real battle. There's a battle against your faith, and the enemy of your soul wants to attack in such a way that will destroy and bring destruction and deconstruction up to your faith so that you can be derailed and deterred for the plan of god in your life.

After you've outfitted yourself with the right shoes on your feet, after you put the belts around your waist, after you have the breastplate on your chest, after you got the helmet on your head, after you've armed yourself with a shield and a sword, stand. Don't fight. Stand. An a a battle is coming, and God has told you to stand. He's giving you everything that you need to stand. If you feel like you can't stand your ground, you have the gospel of peace. If you feel like the attacks are too strong, you have the shield of faith. If you feel like your mind is going crazy, you got the helmet of salvation. If you feel like things are falling apart, you have the belt of truth. If you feel like your heart's under attack, you have the breastplate of righteousness. So stand.

But thanks be to god. We have a savior who has won the victory. Amen? He has overcome darkness. He has defeated death, hell, and the grave by his finished work on the cross. He has overcome those principalities and those powers. The Bible says that Jesus put them to shame. We have the victory, but the key for the believer is how to be a victor and not a victim in the middle of your battle. Are you with me so far? You see, I believe the apostle Paul gives us the tools that we need in Ephesians six to have victory in the middle of our battle.

The Roman soldier wore these sandals that had spikes on the bottom of them. They were kind of like a cleat. And that piece of equipment gave the Roman soldier an unfair advantage. No matter the situation they found themselves in, no matter the type of battle, no matter the altercation, no matter the terrain they were in, their sandals gave them the ability to stand firm under attack, to stand firm in the middle of the battle. The gospel is your unfair advantage.

One of the things I've realized is that many Christians walk around walk around dressed for peace when you should be dressed for battle. You are not dressed for the occasion in which you are in. I don't know if you've ever been invited to a party, and you are you're invited to this party, and you think that it's casual, but for some reason, no one told you that it was a black tie event, and you showed up in cargo shorts. You looked a little bit out of place, did you not?

Listen. The weapon that you will strike back with will not be your intelligence. The weapon that you strike back with will not be your ingenuity. You're walking through a battle right now that you can't throw money at. You're walking through a battle right now that you can't fight your way out of, that you can't stress your way out of, that you can't think your way out of. The word is what's gonna get you out of it. You see, the word is our weapon, but it's also a weapon that the enemy knows a whole lot about. And he will use the word of God twisted and contorted against you. It's a tale as old as time. It's, did God really say?

The security that you have as a believer is in your salvation. And it's important to remember where that security comes from. It's in from Christ alone, through faith alone, by grace alone. Everything else that we would try to hold up in front of God as it gets tested by the fire burns up. There's wheat and there's chaff. There's certain things that will not stand the test except for Christ alone. Those things are fickle. Listen, church attendance is fickle. You you there there there there's good behavior. It's fickle. Karma is fickle. Crystals, sage, and burning incense. It is fickle.

It's the faith of Paul and Silas that though at midnight when they were in the jail cell and they worshiped and they prayed, the chains fell off of them, but it didn't just fall off of them. It fell off of their neighbor and the prisoner next to them, and the doors flew open. Some of y'all know what a contact high is like, but this is a contact faith. That you come into contact with me, you get greater faith. You come into contact with a believer, you get greater hope. You come into contact with the church, you get greater belief. You've got a contact faith, a faith that's big enough and strong enough for both of us.
