Sermon Summary

God’s will is not for His children to struggle under lack, fear, and bondage. Prosperity is not about chasing money or pressuring people to give. Prosperity is about seeing needs met, families cared for, and believers able to put their hands to the work God gives them. God’s Word says that His people can prosper and be in health as their souls prosper.

The spirit of poverty is not simply having little money. The spirit of poverty is a mindset, and fear sits at its root. Credit cards maxed out, bills covered by one card after another, and a life controlled by debt may look prosperous on the outside, but that is bondage. Faith refuses to let debt become the master, because God remains the source and provider.

Jesus preached the gospel to the poor because He does not want people trapped in struggle. Poverty thinking can also live in somebody who has plenty of money. Fearful hoarding, torment over losing possessions, and refusal to enjoy God’s goodness reveal that money has become a master rather than a tool. The love of money is the root of evil, not money itself.

The poverty spirit shows up in criticism, stinginess, comparison, and procrastination. Critical thoughts about somebody else’s house, car, promotion, or blessing close the heart to the truth that God is no respecter of persons. Faith can rejoice when God blesses another person and say, “Now it’s my turn.” Comparison is not wisdom, because God knows the path, doors, and timing for every life.

The rich young ruler shows what happens when possessions hold the heart. Jesus called him to surrender what he trusted, but sorrow revealed that fear had more control than faith. Faith can obey God even when obedience looks risky, because God supplies every need. The call is not to give everything away on a whim, but to trust God enough to do whatever He says.

God’s goodness can bring a person out of ragtag beginnings, patched-up houses, farm debts, and years of putting things off. The kingdom comes first, not the stuff. God adds what is needed when His people seek Him, obey Him, give when He says give, and refuse to let fear write the future. The best is yet to come because God is still good.
