Speaking Faith: Strength in God's Word and Courage
Devotional
Day 1: The Living Word Nourishes Our Spirit
The profound truth that Jesus, the living Word, was nourished by the words He spoke through the prophets of the Old Testament highlights the power and necessity of God's Word in our lives. Just as Jesus found encouragement in His own words, we too can find strength and encouragement in the words we speak and believe. These words are rooted in the truth of God's promises, and they have the power to sustain us through life's challenges. By immersing ourselves in Scripture and speaking God's truth over our lives, we align ourselves with His will and draw nourishment for our spiritual journey. [06:23]
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12, ESV)
Reflection: How can you incorporate speaking God's Word into your daily routine to nourish your spirit?
Day 2: Faith in Action Transforms Lives
Faith is not just about believing but also about speaking and acting upon that belief. Abraham exemplified this by changing his name and circumcising his household, demonstrating that true faith leads to action. When we act on our faith, we align ourselves with God's promises and open the door for His transformative power in our lives. This active faith requires courage and trust, as it often involves stepping out of our comfort zones and into the unknown. By following Abraham's example, we can experience the fullness of God's blessings and see His promises come to fruition in our lives. [07:33]
"So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." (James 2:17, ESV)
Reflection: What is one specific action you can take today to demonstrate your faith in God's promises?
Day 3: Speaking from Discouragement Brings Hope
Those who are most discouraged often need to speak the most. It's not about having a grand prophetic word but about offering a simple drop of water from an empty well, trusting that God can transform it into something miraculous. When we are discouraged, we should still come together, share our faith, and speak what we believe to be true about God. Our circumstances do not change the truth of who God is and what He has done. By speaking out our faith, even in times of discouragement, we invite God's presence into our situation and open the door for His miraculous intervention. [09:04]
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful." (Hebrews 10:23, ESV)
Reflection: In what area of your life do you feel discouraged, and how can you speak God's truth into that situation today?
Day 4: Waiting on the Lord Requires Strength and Courage
Psalm 27 teaches us to wait on the Lord, to be strong, and to take courage, even when there is no immediate resolution. Our journey is a marathon, and we must keep hoping and waiting on the Lord, speaking out our faith, especially in times of discouragement. This waiting is not passive but active, requiring us to trust in God's timing and remain steadfast in our faith. By focusing on God's promises and seeking His presence, we can find the strength and courage needed to endure the trials of life and emerge victorious. [17:23]
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27:14, ESV)
Reflection: How can you actively wait on the Lord in a current situation where you are seeking His guidance?
Day 5: Courage in the Lord Overcomes Life's Battles
Courage is essential in our spiritual journey. We face a battlefield in our lives, and the only way to overcome is by having courage in the Lord, not in ourselves. God has given us a spirit of power, love, and discipline, and we must hold onto that courage as we wait for the Lord. By relying on God's strength and trusting in His promises, we can face any challenge with confidence and emerge victorious. This courage is not self-generated but comes from a deep relationship with God and a firm belief in His faithfulness. [19:41]
"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to rely more on God's courage rather than your own strength?
Sermon Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound truth that Jesus, the living Word, was nourished by the very words He spoke through the prophets of the Old Testament. This highlights the power and necessity of God's Word in our lives. Just as Jesus was encouraged by His own words, we too can find strength and encouragement in the words we speak and believe. The essence of faith is not just in believing but in speaking and acting upon that belief, as exemplified by Abraham, who acted on his faith by changing his name and circumcising his household.
We often find that those who are most discouraged are the ones who need to speak the most. It's not about having a grand prophetic word but about offering a simple drop of water from an empty well. God can transform our small acts of faith into something miraculous, just as He turned water into wine. When we are discouraged, we should still come together, share our faith, and speak what we believe to be true about God. Our circumstances do not change the truth of who God is and what He has done.
Psalm 27 serves as a powerful reminder of this truth. David, amidst his trials, continually sought the face of the Lord. Despite being surrounded by adversaries, he declared his trust in God. This psalm teaches us to wait on the Lord, to be strong, and to take courage, even when there is no immediate resolution. Our journey is a marathon, and we must keep hoping and waiting on the Lord, speaking out our faith, especially in times of discouragement.

Sermon Clips
Jesus himself God was the living word in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God it was Jesus speaking through Moses through David through Daniel and here Jesus is in two thousand years later in human form and Jesus's words of speaking to Jesus and building him up he needed to be fed by the own words he spoke through David through the words that he had spoken through Moses. [00:06:23]
And the way we prove that we believe second Corinthians chapter five I think it's verse five and six we memorize it I believed therefore what I believed therefore I spoke I believed therefore I spoke and Abraham believed and he spoke by changing his name from Abram to Abraham and he believed and therefore he circumcised his whole household he believed and he did and he believed and he spoke. [00:07:09]
The one who probably needed to speak today was the one who was most discouraged let me see that one more time dear brother and sister the one who probably needed to speak today I don't know what it was it may have been me I don't know but I'm in constant need of encouragement that I know but the one who needed to speak the most today was the one who was most discouraged. [00:08:06]
It's the ordinary drop of water that God sees us wanting to give out of an emptiness in our lives that God says it's that five loaves and two fish that will feed five thousand it is that water that has got no business being served in a wedding feast that will be turned into wine all of these going to the stores to get second grade great wine is useless but a drop of water that is done in obedience to God and in service to God and his people God says I can touch that and make that into wine. [00:09:21]
Come to Bible study and if you are especially discouraged speak what you believe to be true about God not about you believe speak what you believe to be true about God if you don't believe anything to be true about God then of course don't speak but he is there to be spoken of in his word he still died 2000 years ago whether you whether you've had a bad week or a good week. [00:10:13]
This is not an easy thanksgiving for me to give this is not a thanksgiving on a good day it's not a thanksgiving because I got my bonus it's not a thanksgiving because my child finally accepted Jesus this is a sacrifice of thanksgiving because it's going from bad to worse so now it's a real sacrifice before it was just a thanksgiving but now there's a real sacrifice like Abraham has to offer Isaac and it's a sacrifice. [00:12:36]
When you are discouraged when you're being tempted and you've got nothing to give dear brothers sisters that's the time to speak what you believe this is um and this is what will show that God is present in our midst it's not deep Bible studies dear brothers and sisters it's it's in the pain it's the pain of Abraham being 75 years old and he spoke and then it's the pain when Abraham is 85 years old and he speaks and that's 10 years of pain. [00:13:17]
Hope against hope he believed Romans 4 18 about Abraham and throughout scripture we're hearing that dear brothers and sisters it's a marathon it's a marathon let me end with psalm chapter 27. I reference that song oh lord you're beautiful your face is all I seek when I think about that song I'm reminded of psalm 27 verse 8 when you said seek my face my heart said to you your face o lord I shall seek. [00:14:25]
Wait for the lord wait wait dear brothers wait for the lord be strong and let your heart take courage wait for the lord there's no resolution there's no resolution in psalm 27 this is not a psalm of a resolution his resolution is just wait wait expectantly and we don't know the end of the story in psalm 27. and so dear brothers and sisters that's my encouragement to you wait do you have rivers of living water coming out of you. [00:17:23]
Dear brothers and sisters we want to be men of courage we want to be women of courage it's a big word for me it's a very big word for me you go to the battlefield and you'll find out courage and we have the battlefield of our lives and the devil is a very deceitful being more deceitful than we can imagine the only way we're going to get through it is we have courage wait for the lord he we have courage in him not in ourselves. [00:19:41]
I just don't know if it's mile 3 or mile 26 but all I know is it's a marathon and we have to keep hoping and waiting in the lord and keep speaking out especially especially if you're discouraged dear brothers and sisters let this thursday bible studies and all of our bible studies be dominated by the discouraged ones that you will be the most eager to share not big big fanciful words not theoretical truths but in the midst of psalm 27 all the troubles one little truth the lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear. [00:20:47]
I just want to tell you the lord is my light and my satisfaction whom shall I fear and I pray that that may be the voices of courage that we will hear in the days to come. [00:21:47]
