Speak Grace to Your Mountain by God’s Spirit

The call to step into a new season brings real obstacles, mountains that can look insurmountable. God’s faithfulness in the life of the church calls for thanksgiving, patience, and stewardship as needed improvements move forward. The vision for new access, safer parking, and a completed project invites people to pray, fulfill commitments, and ask God about creative ways to give without taking on more debt. Small beginnings, faithful generosity, and God’s provision have carried the church from a gathering of thirty-three people to a place of greater ministry.

Zechariah speaks into the aftermath of seventy years of exile, when God’s people were physically free but still had captivity working in their minds and emotions. God had not forgotten them. God assured them that He would deal with their enemies, restore Jerusalem, and rebuild the temple through Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor.

The great mountain before Zerubbabel represented every delay, every opponent, and every impossible thing standing between the people and restored worship. God answered the question of how that work would succeed: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit.” Grace becomes the proper word over the mountain because grace admits that human strength cannot finish what only God’s Spirit can accomplish. The shout of “Grace, grace” shifts attention from the size of the obstacle to the magnitude of God in the equation.

The plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand also guards against despising small beginnings. God completes what He starts, and hindsight often reveals that the soul remembers God’s goodness more deeply than the struggles along the way. Grief, hardship, and uncertainty can become places where God’s hand is recognized more clearly.

Jesus carries the same truth into Mark 11 by giving authority to speak to the mountain. Faith does not deny sickness, financial pressure, broken relationships, stress, or loss. Faith turns and faces the mountain rather than ignoring it, rehearsing it, or allowing intimidation to rule the heart. Forgiveness matters here because mountain-moving faith cannot freely operate while a grudge is being held. Grace and authority belong together: grace declares dependence on God’s Spirit, and authority commands the mountain to become a plain.
