So Great a Salvation -The Great Results Sunday am 6/28/2026

Luke chapter eight sets a hard case in front of Christ. The man of the Gadarenes looks like a lost cause, the kind of person everybody in town had already given up on. Sin had taken him farther than anybody would want to go. He was naked, violent, isolated, living among the tombs, driven into the wilderness, cutting himself, and no man could tame him.

Sin shows itself as more than bad habits in that man. Sin brings death, shame, unrest, uncleanness, wrong thinking, and separation from God. The chains and fetters could not fix him, because outward restraint could never heal inward ruin. The man did not simply need to behave better. He needed Christ to show up.

Christ comes across Galilee and meets the man in his misery. The devils know who Jesus is, and they tremble before him. Legion may have held the man for a long time, but Legion could not hold him when the Son of God commanded the unclean spirits to come out. The swine run violently into the lake, the town worries about the loss of income, and the people ask Jesus to leave. But Christ leaves behind a changed man.

Salvation produces peace. The same man who had been restless and untamable is found “sitting at the feet of Jesus.” No more running, no more screaming, no more cutting. Rest had come to the restless, not merely because trouble had been removed, but because the presence of Christ had come in. The wicked are like the troubled sea, but Christ can calm the heart, and that is a greater miracle than calming the water.

Salvation also produces purity. The man is clothed. His nakedness was not just a physical shame, but a picture of the shame sin brings. God covered Adam and Eve, and God still covers shame through the blood of Christ. “Such were some of you,” Paul says, but washed, sanctified, and justified is not the same as still being what sin once made a person.

Salvation produces perspective. The man is in his right mind. Sin has an insanity to it, but the gospel restores a sound mind. Christ changes how God, sin, money, marriage, suffering, eternity, and purpose are seen.

Salvation produces purpose. The man wants to go with Jesus, but Jesus sends him home to tell what great things God had done for him. The devil had defined him, but Jesus redefined him. The man who had no life now had a testimony.
