YOLO: Your smart watch can’t make time.

The subject of time starts with a painfully obvious truth: a smartwatch can tell time, but it cannot make time. The smartwatch image shows how sophisticated technology has become, even to the point of monitoring health and calling for help, but it still cannot create one extra second. The YOLO frame says, “you only live once,” and if God gives only one time around on this earth, that time must not be squandered.

Life is short and God is sovereign, and those two truths radically change the way a schedule should be viewed. James 4 exposes the arrogance of people who say they will go to a city, spend a year, do business, and make a profit, as if tomorrow belongs to them. The presumption of tomorrow turns into evil because it treats time as personal property instead of a gift from God. God gives today, but God has not guaranteed tomorrow.

Time inventory reveals how easily minutes get away. The big chunks of time usually get protected, but the little minutes slip into hobbies, screens, and lesser things until they become hours, days, weeks, and a lifetime. The chef knife picture makes the point plain: a gift can be used for something it was not made for, but that does not mean it is being used rightly. Time can “turn screws,” but God made it for something better.

The second danger is missing what matters.
