#legacyofthecross
“``That is the greatest legacy you could ever leave. I was at a retreat one time in Indonesia, and they wanted to talk about generational blessings and and leaving a good legacy. And the idea was to talk about success and riches and good business mind. And I said, The one legacy we must leave to our children, we pick up the cross and we follow Jesus. Because without that, success doesn't matter. Money doesn't matter. Nothing matters if we don't follow Jesus. That's the legacy that we need to leave for our children. And may that be the legacy that goes from generation to generation. People who are carrying the cross and following Jesus. Oh, what a thing for these boys to remember.”

#chosenbyprovidence
“So no way was it coincidence. I believe the reason why the soldiers picked Simon was because of providence. It was God who chose Simon for such a time as this. Simon had no idea that his name would be called upon this day, but it was. And eventually, it would lead to a brand new changed life. wonder, have you ever thought about the beginning of your relationship with Jesus Christ? And if you do, how did it all begin for you? What were the circumstances? Was it something you were expecting? Something that you were seeking for? Or was it all of a sudden?”

“You know what that means? The day that God chose Simon, he also chose Alexander and Rufus. And not just those two boys, but their mother as well. Because evidently, Paul had such respect for their mother. She had taken care of him evidently and ministered to him. She became like a second mother to Paul. This all means, church, Simon, his wife, Alexander, and Rufus, they were all saved and served the Lord Jesus Christ, and they were important parts of the church of Jesus.”

#providenceandrenewal
“Every time you may have said, I believe God has a plan for my life. Amen? That's the providence of God. Every time we may say, even though I've made mistakes, I have sinned, I've done bad things, I've made wrong decisions, yet God has forgiven me. He has made all things new, and he called my name. That's the providence of God. Or if you look back at how God saved you, you might say, at the time I wasn't even looking for him. I didn't even know I needed him. Yet he found me, and he has changed my life. Amen. That's the providence of God.”

#putyourtrustinJesus
“So today, if you have never put your trust in Jesus, do it now. He led you to this place today. He knew where you would sit, and he knew the message you would hear today. And therefore, he brought you to hear it. He drew you to himself today. Will you put your trust in him? Perhaps today you are facing a crisis. Perhaps the greatest crisis you've ever faced before. You need strength, you need God's help, then come and renew your trust in him. The god of providence.”

“Now we've heard that word probably before, providence, and some people also talk about the sovereignty of God. Well, according to the Bible and specifically the story we just read, what is providence? Providence speaks of a God who is actively involved in human affairs. It speaks of a God who is guiding humanity with a good hand. A God who is on the throne, who is always in charge, and a God who will always accomplish what he sets out to do. Always accomplishes his will, and he does so graciously through people like you and me.”

#sharedburdensoffaith
“This is what Simon did. He didn't argue. He simply picked up the cross and started on his way. That cross was rugged, and it was heavy. And as he pressed it between his arms and against his cheek, he could feel the blood and the sweat of Jesus. And upon his clothing, the blood was soaking through the fabric. Simon is now carrying the heavy burden of the Lord's cross. And then, Luke adds a detail. Luke saw something in all of this, and he wanted to make sure we saw what people saw. In Luke twenty three twenty six, Luke says, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus. In other words, Simon carried the cross and followed Jesus.”

#suddendivineencounter
“God has a way of calling our name and drawing us in, and all of it is to meet with him in this place. You never know at what point that sudden encounter with the Lord will take place. For some of you, maybe it happened in a hospital room. Some of you, a living room. Maybe in a sanctuary. Maybe this very sanctuary. Or for others, perhaps it was in a car with a friend on your way somewhere. Or like I've experienced much of, in the middle of a restaurant while having coffee or dinner with somebody. Somebody comes to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. You never know when such a thing will happen.”
