August 30th, 2026 - Signs of a Transformed Life - Believe

John writes to believers so that they can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have eternal life. Fellowship with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ, brings a real union, a real connection, and that fellowship cannot help but change a person. Jesus stands at the center as advocate, atonement, and the One who makes union with the Father possible. Transformation then shows itself in obedience, belief, and love.

These signs do not save anybody. Jesus has already done the work, and He meant it when He said, “It is finished.” John presents obedience, belief, and love as signposts on the road, evidence that Christ has done something inside a believer. Belief begins with trusting that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, crucified and risen for sinners. Belief then grows into something beyond natural ability, a supernatural faith that makes God’s children overcomers.

The world stands for a whole system that has no regard for God or the things of God. The world has a flow, a drift, and that flow constantly presses against the truth of Christ. Christ calls His people out of that flow, like salmon swimming upstream instead of just going wherever the current goes. The world can tolerate faith kept inside four walls, but the world becomes hostile when faith gets out there and interrupts its flow.

The world often shows itself in obvious wickedness, hatred, violence, sexual immorality, bitterness, and rebellion against God. The world also works in subtle ways through an egocentric life that makes self the lord, decides truth by personal happiness, and sees no need for Jesus because life seems fine. God does not change with culture, and His Word does not become untrue because the world has changed its mind.

Empty religion reveals an even more dangerous drift. Empty religion can sit in a pew, check boxes, look good on the outside, and still remain untransformed on the inside. The drift happens slowly, like somebody riding waves at the beach and realizing later that they are far from where they started. God has not moved, but routine, hidden sin, guilt, shame, and empty motions can carry a heart far from Him.

Faith brings victory because faith is fixed on Christ, not self, routines, or traditions. God’s Word feeds faith and keeps His truth normal when the world keeps feeding its own garbage. Christ has overcome the world, and His Spirit gives believers everything needed for life and godliness. Faith in Jesus, the Son of God, keeps God’s children in His flow and gives them victory over the world.
