Sharing Our Testimony: The Power of Personal Faith

Summary

This morning, we reflected on the power and necessity of sharing our personal testimony, especially with those closest to us. Coming from a background steeped in Taoism and Buddhism, I shared my journey of searching for truth through various religions and philosophies, only to find true peace and clarity in Jesus Christ. The story of my son’s spiritual journey illustrated that faith cannot be inherited; each person must encounter God for themselves. Even as parents and pastors, we cannot force our children into faith, but we can share our authentic stories and trust the Holy Spirit to do the work in their hearts.

I recounted the pivotal moment when my teenage son questioned the uniqueness of Christ among other religious figures. In that moment, the Holy Spirit reminded me that God has no grandchildren—only sons and daughters. This revelation shifted my approach from trying to argue or convince, to simply sharing my own testimony of how Jesus became real to me. I explained how, despite exploring other faiths and practices, none brought the peace and transformation that Jesus did. Using the analogy of always choosing the “sun-kissed” orange among many, I described how Jesus is the real deal among many options.

We also explored the biblical foundation for sharing our testimony, referencing Revelation 12:11, which speaks of overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Our stories of God’s faithfulness—through healing, provision, and transformation—are powerful tools in spiritual warfare and in drawing others to Christ. Yet, the most compelling testimony is a changed life. Our character, attitudes, and daily choices must reflect the reality of Christ within us, especially before our families and communities.

I emphasized the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in when and how to share, and in shaping our character so that our lives are seasoned with grace and truth. The journey with my son came full circle when, years later, he declared his own conviction that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life—not because of my arguments, but because of his personal encounter with Christ. This is the hope and prayer for all our loved ones: that they, too, would experience Jesus for themselves and become salt and light in the world.

Key Takeaways

- Faith is not inherited, but encountered. No matter how faithfully we raise our children or how much we desire for our loved ones to know Christ, each person must have their own encounter with God. Our role is to share our story and pray, trusting the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself in His time and way. [32:37]

- Authentic testimony is more powerful than argument. When faced with questions or doubts, especially from those we love, it is not persuasive arguments but the honest sharing of our own journey with Jesus that often speaks the loudest. Our lived experience of Christ’s reality is a light that cannot be ignored. [43:54]

- The greatest evidence of Christ is a transformed life. Our attitudes, habits, and character changes are the most compelling proof of the gospel’s power. When our lives reflect patience, humility, and integrity, especially in the face of opposition or misunderstanding, we become living testimonies that draw others to Christ. [53:24]

- The Holy Spirit is our guide in sharing and living out our faith. He teaches us when to speak, when to be silent, and how to respond with wisdom and grace. Cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit ensures that our words and actions are seasoned with salt and that we represent Christ well. [59:36]

- Perseverance in prayer and love bears fruit in God’s timing. Even when we do not see immediate results, continued prayer, loving boundaries, and consistent witness can lead to transformation in our families. God is faithful to honor the seeds we sow, often in ways and times we least expect. [01:05:08]

### Bible Reading

Revelation 12:11 (ESV)
> And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV)
> “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Day 1: Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
In a world filled with many paths and philosophies, the search for truth can be overwhelming and confusing. Yet, there is a peace and clarity that comes from encountering Jesus personally, beyond tradition or upbringing. No amount of religious activity or family heritage can substitute for a genuine relationship with Christ; each person must come to know Him for themselves. When the light of Christ shines into a life previously marked by darkness, everything changes—clarity replaces confusion, and peace replaces striving. Jesus is not just one option among many; He is the real deal, the only way to true life and lasting truth. [41:38]

John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Reflection: What is one area of your life where you are still searching for answers or peace? Will you bring that area to Jesus today and ask Him to reveal Himself as the way, the truth, and the life for you personally?

Day 2: The Power of Testimony
Every believer has a story of how God has worked in their life, turning tests into testimonies. Sharing your testimony is not just about recounting past troubles, but about declaring God’s faithfulness and victory in your life. When you speak of what God has done, you not only encourage others but also overcome the enemy’s accusations. Your story, no matter how ordinary it may seem, is a powerful weapon—because it points to the finished work of Jesus and the reality of His presence in your life. Don’t underestimate the impact of your testimony; it is both a declaration of God’s goodness and a means of spiritual triumph. [43:54]

Revelation 12:10-11 (KJV)
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Reflection: What is one specific way God has brought you through a difficult situation? Who can you share this testimony with this week to encourage them?

Day 3: Living as Salt and Light
Being a follower of Jesus means living in such a way that your life brings flavor and illumination to those around you. Just as salt preserves and flavors food, and light dispels darkness, your changed character and good works can point others to God. It’s not enough to claim faith; your actions, attitudes, and choices must reflect the transformation Christ brings. Even when it’s difficult, choosing integrity, humility, and love in your family and community can open doors for others to see the reality of Jesus. Let your life be a testimony that draws others to glorify your Father in heaven. [51:41]

Matthew 5:13-16 (KJV)
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Reflection: In what practical way can you show the love and character of Jesus to your family or community today, especially in an area where you have struggled before?

Day 4: Relying on the Holy Spirit’s Guidance
Sharing your faith and living out your testimony is not something you do in your own strength. The Holy Spirit is your helper, guiding you in what to say, when to speak, and when to listen. He gives wisdom, patience, and discernment, especially in challenging relationships or situations. As you cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit, you will find yourself empowered to represent Jesus well, even when it means biting your tongue or waiting for the right moment. Trust that the Spirit is at work in you and in those you love, orchestrating opportunities for God’s love to be made known. [59:36]

John 14:26 (ESV)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Reflection: When was the last time you paused to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance before responding to a difficult person or situation? Will you invite Him to lead you in your conversations today?

Day 5: The Greatest Testimony is a Changed Life
The most compelling evidence of Jesus’ reality is a transformed life. When your character, habits, and relationships begin to reflect Christ, those around you take notice—even if they don’t immediately agree with your faith. True change often requires humility, perseverance, and a willingness to let God work in the hidden places of your heart. As you grow in maturity and allow God to shape your responses, your life becomes a living testimony that can soften even the hardest hearts. Remember, it is by your fruit that others will know you belong to Jesus. [54:44]

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Reflection: What is one area of your character that God is inviting you to surrender and allow Him to transform? How can you take a step toward that change today?

Quotes

So sharing our testimony is important because we defeat the enemy by the blood of the Lamb, which Jesus has already done on that work at the cross. It's called the finished work. and by the word of our testimony. So it's important for us to share our testimony. [00:45:34] (21 seconds)  #VictoryThroughTestimony Edit Clip

If we tell a story about how horrible life is all the way, why would that person want to turn to Jesus? I remember meeting a lady, and I said, what goodness does it do to you for you to turn to Jesus? She said, you know, the day I turn to Jesus, my life has been more trouble than ever. And as a non -believer, I said, if your life is going to be so trouble, why would I turn to Jesus? You get what I mean? We go to troubles, yes, but we're not alone. Because the one who understands all troubles will make a way for us and will give us strength to sustain us in that trouble and through that trouble. God is faithful. If you don't have a story, start asking God for an encounter. You will have a story. But when you go through that encounter with God, do not fall away. Stay in him because he does not fail. [00:47:54] (16 seconds)  #EncounterAndEndure Edit Clip

How would you know God is your healer unless you're sick? I was sick with an ovarian cyst at one time. And God supernaturally healed me, and I didn't have to go for surgery. That was more than 20 years ago. How would we know that God is our provider unless we are going through a time of need? Isn't that true? [00:48:10] (25 seconds)  #HealingThroughFaith Edit Clip

How would we know that God is a God of the supernatural if we don't go through issues in life? How would I know that God is a God of restoration unless I have some broken down relationships in life? Right? So when we're going through hardships in life, I want to encourage you to not give up because the truth is God is a God who never fails. [00:49:35] (32 seconds)  #FaithInHardship Edit Clip

I learned submission to God to overcome my bad tempers and unbridled anger that's an ongoing process I think I'm a little bit more patient than I was before and I kept asking Jesus to help me to represent him correctly before my family so am I still salty I endeavor to be salty on a daily basis do I have influence in the world I think the greatest influence I have is the influence of a changed character for Jesus said it is by their fruit you shall know the tree. ``If you ask me how I know Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, I cannot prove it to you, but I know he is the way, the truth, and the life. I've experienced him and I will never leave Jesus because he is the real deal. [01:06:02] (23 seconds)  #EveryChildNeedsGod Edit Clip
