Don't Wait Until Christmas to Share Jesus

Christmas stands one hundred and thirty nine days away, but the joy of Christmas is not supposed to wait on the calendar. The lights, the food, the family, and the gifts are good things, but the birth of Jesus Christ is the one birth that matters the most. The point is simple and direct: Christians should not wait until December 25, or even Christmas Eve service, to tell people about Jesus.

Luke 2 gives the pattern. The angel tells the shepherds, “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.” The words “all people” matter because the announcement was never meant to be saved for one season. The angel did not tell the shepherds to put it on the calendar for next year. The shepherds heard the good news, hurried to Bethlehem, saw Jesus, and then “told everyone what had happened.”

The shepherds show what evangelism looks like. An encounter with Jesus leads to telling others about Jesus. The birth of Christ is the beginning of the greatest story ever told, God coming through Jesus Christ to save sinners. The manger points toward the cross. The baby in Bethlehem became the Savior at Calvary. Christmas tells that Jesus came, and the gospel tells why he came.

Luke 19:10 gives that reason plainly: the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost. The empty seats in the church building picture real people who still need Jesus. The Great Commission is not seasonal, and Jesus did not tell his disciples to make disciples once a year. Jesus said, “Go.” The calling is not just to celebrate that Jesus came, but to tell people why he came.

Second Timothy 4:2 presses that same urgency: be ready in season and out of season.
