Shaping Future Generations Through Authentic Faith
Devotional
Day 1: Living Faith in Everyday Actions
Our children learn more from our actions than our words. Living an authentic faith means demonstrating how we rely on Jesus in both good times and bad, showing them that faith is a practical, everyday commitment. This involves being intentional in how we live out our faith, ensuring that our actions align with our beliefs. By doing so, we provide a living example for the next generation to follow, showing them that faith is not just a set of beliefs but a way of life. [11:48]
"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." (Colossians 4:6, ESV)
Reflection: Think of a recent situation where your actions did not align with your faith. How can you intentionally demonstrate your faith in a similar situation today?
Day 2: Embracing Questions and Doubts
Creating a safe space for children to express doubts and ask questions is crucial. By responding with love and grace, we teach them that faith is a journey and that it's okay to seek understanding. This openness encourages a deeper exploration of faith, allowing children to develop a personal relationship with Jesus that is based on their own understanding and experiences. It is important to remember that questions are a natural part of growth and should be welcomed as opportunities for learning and connection. [20:07]
"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect." (1 Peter 3:15, ESV)
Reflection: Recall a time when a child or young person asked you a challenging question about faith. How can you prepare yourself to respond with love and grace the next time this happens?
Day 3: The Role of Church Community
Regular church attendance and involvement in ministry are vital for spiritual growth. By prioritizing these activities, we model the importance of community and commitment to our children. Being part of a church community provides support, accountability, and opportunities for service, all of which are essential for a thriving faith. It also shows the next generation that faith is not just a personal journey but a communal one, where we grow and serve together. [23:09]
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25, ESV)
Reflection: How can you make church involvement a priority in your life this week, and how can you encourage your family to join you in this commitment?
Day 4: Foundations of Bible Study and Prayer
Integrating Bible study and prayer into daily life sets a foundation for spiritual growth. These practices help children understand the value of a personal relationship with Jesus. By making these spiritual disciplines a regular part of our routine, we demonstrate their importance and provide a model for our children to follow. This foundation not only strengthens our own faith but also equips the next generation with the tools they need to navigate their spiritual journey. [30:07]
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17, ESV)
Reflection: What is one specific way you can incorporate Bible study and prayer into your daily routine this week, and how can you involve your family in this practice?
Day 5: Embracing God's Grace and New Beginnings
No family is perfect, but God's grace allows us to start anew each day. By embracing this grace, we can model forgiveness and transformation to our children, showing them the power of a life dedicated to Jesus. This understanding of grace encourages us to extend forgiveness to ourselves and others, creating an environment where growth and change are possible. It reminds us that each day is an opportunity to live out our faith more fully and to guide the next generation in doing the same. [31:15]
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV)
Reflection: Reflect on a recent mistake or failure. How can you embrace God's grace today and use this experience as an opportunity for growth and transformation?
Sermon Summary
In today's gathering, we focused on the critical role we play in shaping the future of the next generation. We began by acknowledging the challenges and heartaches that come with parenting and mentoring, recognizing that this responsibility extends beyond biological parents to include foster families, kinship care families, grandparents, and anyone who interacts with children. Our primary concern is ensuring that the world does not crush the spirit of our young ones but instead allows them to thrive in life and in their relationship with Jesus.
We explored the importance of living an authentic faith that is visible to the next generation. It's not enough to rely on the church or schools to instill values; our everyday actions and decisions are what truly shape eternal legacies. We must demonstrate a life of intentionality, where our faith is not just spoken but lived out in practical ways. This includes how we respond to challenges, how we practice mercy and grace, and how we prioritize Jesus in our lives.
We also discussed the significance of allowing children to ask questions and express doubts without fear of judgment. By treating their inquiries with love and grace, we create an environment where they feel safe to explore their faith. Additionally, we emphasized the importance of regular church attendance and involvement in ministry as a way to model commitment and community to our children.
Finally, we highlighted the necessity of teaching the Bible and prayer as foundational practices in the home. By integrating these spiritual disciplines into our daily lives, we set a precedent for our children to follow. While no family is perfect, God's grace empowers us to start anew each day, ensuring that our legacy is one of faith, love, and dedication to Jesus Christ.

Sermon Clips
We must demonstrate a life of intentionality, where our faith is not just spoken but lived out in practical ways. This includes how we respond to challenges, how we practice mercy and grace, and how we prioritize Jesus in our lives. [01:04:39]
I want them to thrive to thrive in life and to thrive in the relationship with Jesus and I want them to shine brightly I want them to be a light it is so important that we raise the Next Generation right it is is so important and listen to me folks it's not too late for us to shift the tide. [01:06:10]
We can't just leave it to the church we can't expect that the schools are going to do it and friends we can't expect it just to be something that we teach them by having the odd conversation with us we don't just learn they don't just learn through our words they learn through us living intentional everyday lives. [01:09:40]
I remember your genuine faith for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and I know that the same Faith continues strong in you. Wow, multi-generational passing down of the torch. [01:11:48]
We need to let them see authentic faith in action it needs to be in action and honestly I think generally speaking those that consider themselves to be Christians who have kids or grandkids we would say yeah absolutely that makes total sense but then when it comes to the application of this we falter a little bit. [01:14:39]
When there's a challenge that arises in your life how do you respond to it how do you respond to it when that challenge comes up right do you run off with your spouse into the other room make sure that the kids are busy watching TV and you hash everything out and you worry about everything on your own or do you let them see your response? [01:19:04]
I think that the worst thing that we can do as parents is punish our kids or our grandkids or give them a verbal lashing when they disagree with us now there's a time and place for punishing bad attitude and bad decision making and all of these things but what if our kids knew that when they come to us we would treat them as our heavenly father treats us? [01:22:04]
Your everyday walk with God shapes Eternal legacies and so let your kids see authentic faith in action treat questions with love and grace and show them that attending church matters it matters you know you would not believe the number of people that I hear and the number of stories that I read of these parents that are brokenhearted because they just wish their kids would come to church. [01:29:39]
Every excuse to miss church is an example of what you prioritize let me say that again every excuse to miss church is an example of what you prioritize yes absolutely Pastor Stephen but you know sometimes we need to be out of town sometimes we're going on vacation sometimes we do we're doing these things I totally totally totally get it. [01:31:15]
Show them that serving matters because Church isn't just about being here it's about being part of something it's about being a part of a Ministry so how are you helping others how are you getting involved how are you supporting the ministry how are you you showing these your kids these things because if you're not involved in serving chances are they won't won't be either. [01:33:13]
Prioritize teaching the Bible and prayer Proverbs says train up a child in the way he should go and even when he is old he will not depart from it this can look like any number of things and honestly these things come in and out of my family Dynamics based on kids work schedules and all of these things maybe it's family devotions. [01:30:07]
No family is perfect because we all fall short in living out our faith and our love and the love of Christ in our homes but the good news is that God's grace meets us where we are and through Jesus we are forgiven and empowered to start anew every parent messes up every human being messes up daily.
