Today, we gathered as a diverse family, celebrating the many cultures God has brought together in our church. We welcomed new faces, honored those who serve, and remembered the sacrifices made for our freedom—both by soldiers and, most importantly, by Jesus Christ. As we approach Remembrance Day, we are reminded not to forget the cost of our liberty, and even more so, the cost of our salvation. The call to remember is deeply biblical: God urges us not to let His works and His faithfulness slip from our hearts, but to teach them to the next generation.
We also reflected on what it means to be “set apart.” God has called us, not to blend in with the world, but to live as a holy, consecrated people—dedicated to His purposes. This isn’t about outward acts or religious checklists, but about a heart that is fully surrendered. Like the utensils in the temple, we are meant for God’s exclusive use, not for common purposes. Consecration means dethroning ourselves and enthroning Christ, recognizing that everything we have—our time, resources, and even our very lives—are a stewardship from Him.
To live set apart, we must first release: let go of the past, whether victories or failures, and refuse to let old patterns dictate our future. God is always doing something new, and we cannot receive it if our hands are full of yesterday’s manna. Repentance—changing the way we think—is key to this release. We are called, not by accident, but by divine purpose, to be saints, to be salt and light, to bring the flavor and fragrance of Christ into every place we go.
Jesus calls us to forsake all others, to give Him the place in our hearts that no one and nothing else can have. This is not about hating our families or our lives, but about loving Him most, so that every other love is rightly ordered. When we do this, we become truly salty—distinct, preserving, and flavorful in a world that desperately needs the taste of God’s goodness. Our consecration is not for isolation, but for mission: to display His excellencies, to diffuse the fragrance of His knowledge, and to walk in the good works He has prepared for us.
As we continue in this series, may our hearts remain soft and open to the Spirit’s leading, ready to be set apart for the wonders God wants to do among us.
Key Takeaways
- 1. Consecration Means Exclusive Devotion to God To be set apart is to be wholly devoted to God’s purposes, not merely performing religious duties. Like the temple utensils, our lives are meant for His exclusive use. This requires dethroning self and enthroning Christ, recognizing that every resource and moment is a sacred trust. Only then can His glory be seen through us. [68:55]
- 2. Release the Past to Embrace God’s Newness We cannot receive what God wants to do today if we are clinging to yesterday’s victories or failures. Releasing the past—through repentance and a renewed mind—frees us to perceive and participate in the new things God is doing. This is a daily, relational process, not a one-time event. [78:41]
- 3. Forsake All Competing Loves for Christ Jesus calls us to give Him the place in our hearts that no one else can have. This is not about neglecting others, but about rightly ordering our loves so that He is first. When we do this, we become truly “salty”—distinct and impactful, able to bring God’s flavor and fragrance into the world. [85:14]
- 4. Set Apart for a Purpose, Not Isolation God sets us apart not to withdraw from the world, but to fulfill a unique calling. Each of us has good works prepared in advance, and as we consecrate ourselves, we become vessels through which God displays His excellencies and brings transformation to those around us. [76:40]
