Matthew 15:26 puts the children’s bread in front of the church as more than a line in a story. Jesus says it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs, and that picture pushes believers to remember where they stand before God. Power Sunday exists because real needs must be brought before a God who answers, heals, delivers, and still does miracles.
The church can become satisfied with nice words, a two-hour spiritual high, and then a return to miserable lives that still need God. God is not only heard in preaching. God is the One who says, “Is there anything too hard for me?” God is the One who helps and delivers those who take refuge in Him. Christ is still able to reach out and help a person in a real time of need.
The pulpit can tame the power of God when it tries too hard to make God fit into present experience. Human experience is not the full measure of who God is. The Bible world must bring believers face to face with the God of the Bible, rather than cutting God down to the size of what somebody has personally seen. Romans says what was written before was written for instruction, so believers must become relevant to God instead of trying to make God relevant to them.
Faith can be hindered by an attitude that doubts whether God really wants to help. God may use suffering to build a person, but God finds no joy in suffering itself. God receives glory when His children bear fruit, shine, rise, walk in healing, and see chains broken. The Father’s good pleasure is to give the kingdom, and His goodness must not be replaced with a picture of God who enjoys holding His children down.
The Canaanite woman shows what faith looks like when prayer seems to receive no answer. Jesus is silent, and she keeps crying, “Have mercy on me.” Faith is not proven by loud prayers when everything happens quickly. Faith is seen when a person keeps coming to God after silence, delay, rejection, and every negative word.
The children’s bread gives the ground for that persistence. A child does not come to the table as a stranger begging for crumbs. Healing, help, breakthrough, and mercy are brought before God as the needs of a child who belongs in the Father’s house. God wants to help, and faith keeps making a demand on what belongs at the table.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God still answers real human needs [10:28] God is not limited to inspiring words that leave a person unchanged after church. Scripture presents Him as the One who helps, delivers, heals, and saves those who take refuge in Him. Faith begins by bringing actual pain, bondage, sickness, and lack before the God who is able to act. [10:28]
- 2. The Bible must define God’s power [15:39] Personal experience can become a small container for a limitless God. The Bible brings believers into God’s world, where healing, deliverance, mercy, and impossible things belong to His revealed character. A believer cannot expect what has been removed from his understanding of God. [15:39]
- 3. God finds no joy in suffering [20:27] God may use painful seasons to form a person, but pain is not His delight. His glory is seen when lives bear fruit, rise, shine, and display His goodness. A distorted view of suffering can quietly make people accept chains that God desires to break. [20:27]
- 4. Faith persists through God’s silence [27:24] The Canaanite woman kept coming when Jesus gave no immediate answer. Faith is not merely confidence before the first prayer; faith remains turned toward God when delay tests the heart. Persistent prayer declares that no other source can do what God alone can do. [27:24]
- 5. Children come boldly for their bread [35:55] The children’s bread changes the posture of prayer from fearful begging to believing dependence. A child belongs at the Father’s table and comes because of relationship, not personal merit. Healing and breakthrough are sought with confidence in God’s willingness to help His children.
