#GodLovesTheWorld
“``It's a message that is 100% consistent with the notion that God loves the whole world. This most famous teaching, this most famous scripture that everybody religious and non religious can quote, God so loves the whole world. And it's a very difficult teaching actually because it requires that we do the same. It's a challenge for all believers. Here's the question. Here's a challenge question, if you will. Do you believe that God loves the whole world? And does that work out practically in your life that you actually believe that God loves the whole world? Do you believe the second part of that, that he did not come to condemn the world? I don't know if most of Christendom believes either of those things.”

#LongGameLove
“For Barnabas, this was a long game. This is just who he was. And then you have people come along looking for the short term hit. How do we get in on that? How do we get in on that favor and that cachet? And the short answer is, it's the message of the whole sermon. It is love. That's the short answer. It's also the long answer. You love others, and you just find a way to love others. And as you love others, you find more ways to love others, and then you get out of your own way.”

#PrideIsTrojanHorse
“Really, this teaching, Jesus it's a Trojan horse teaching. I think Jesus is teaching about pride, of course. I mean, that's just front and center. Right? And so I'll just say, secondly, that sometimes our pride is our project. This is actually the hardest thing because pride does a job or it thinks it does a job. Pride protects stuff. Right? It it protects the things on the inside that we don't want people on the outside to see. It's the three hundred pound doorman bouncer at the rope line of the nightclub. Right? It's the thing that keeps you overexplaining when the hole you've dug is already so deep you can't see over the rim. It's a lot of it's exhausting. And if that is the job of pride, pride does a terrible job because most people see anyway. Right?”

#HumilityThroughTrust
“Say, thirdly, this morning and lastly, that humility is just settling down and trusting God. It's a good street level definition, and that relationship is the reward. You'll know it's a fertile ground of humility because relationship healthy relationship comes about. We all love I mean, we can all identify with the phrase, he or she can't help themselves. Right? That need for affirmation in some respect is so overwhelming that sometimes we can't avoid the cringey behavior, the knowing better but pleading ignorance. You know what? And the fact is is that humility often requires the killing off of something, the tendency or the thing or the nature that says you must do something and you might not get what you need out of it, that worries that we won't get credit or notice, that has to platform self, that and the pride that protects self interest.”
