#SelfControlIsGodControl
“``And so biblically, this is important. Biblically, self control is God control. Did you hear that? Say that with me. Self control is God control and that can only come through the abiding life. So discipline is what we practice and we have to have personal discipline, but self control is what the holy spirit produces as our discipline is surrendered to God. Now that's a really important concept to get. I'm gonna say it again. Discipline is what we practice. It's what we do. Self control is what the holy spirit produces as our discipline is surrendered to God.”

#LiveUnderGodsRule
“And so because of that, he can forgive our failures. He can give us his spirit. He can produce in us what we can never manufacture on our own, which is actually self control. Because self control is what kind of control? God control. Self control isn't about denying joy. It's not about protecting joy. It's about living freely under the rule of God. Because when God governs your heart, he enables you to govern your desires, your decisions, and your actions. Self control matters.”

#PauseAskTheSpirit
“Listen. This is so important. Most of our failures of self control occur because we react too quickly without considering the consequences. And so before sending that text, before posting that comment, before making that remark, before making that purchase or clicking that link, stop. Pause. Pause and ask, is the spirit leading me or am I being led by myself?”

#SmallIndulgenceBigCost
“But see the truth is whether it's sugar, drugs, social media, alcohol, pornography, or some other device, we're all suspect when our want overwhelms our ability to control. And for the vast majority of us, if we're being honest, our ability to control is far less than our want. See, long before sin becomes a prison, it's often just an innocent snack. A small indulgence that's repeated until it develops into a habit, then into a pattern, and finally into a prison. And this is why self control matters. Self control isn't about denying joy. Self control is not about protecting joy. It's about learning to live under God's rule so that our ambitions, our attitudes, our appetites, and our actions don't rule us and they don't wreck us.”
