“Wisdom is seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven.”
“There's rarely a day that goes by where I'm not saying, God, I need to know what to do. God, I need your help. I need wisdom in this moment.”
“If you don't have a habit of reading the Bible, I would encourage you. Today's June 1st. There's 31 proverbs. So it's a nice monthly read. You can just read a proverb a day.”
“Here at the well, what we believe to be true about the word of God is that it is the very words of God. That the Bible is not just a good book, a moral ethic, or a nice story. It is the very words of God.”
“Wisdom is, oh, shoot. Shoot. I'm locked out of this house. Well, how might I get in? I'm probably not going to break a window. That doesn't seem very wise. Let me at least first check the other doors. Well, that's wisdom.”
“Wisdom is seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven, which frankly is a mess. It's a mess. This is why so many of us in so many situations are crying out, God, give me wisdom. God, help me know what to do.”
“We need wisdom to know how to live out God's good design on this side of heaven. Wisdom is instruction. It's words of insight. It's wise dealing. It's righteousness, justice, and equity. What are all those synonyms for? They're synonyms for God's good design.”
“Wisdom is not always black and white. If you want to, you could turn with me real quick to Proverbs chapter 24. Proverbs chapter 26, verse 4. Proverbs chapter 26, verse 4. Here's how we know that wisdom is not always black and white. It's because Proverbs 26, 4, and 5 are in the Bible.”
“Wisdom is not always a right or wrong kind of thing. It's not always moral. Wisdom is certainly not black and white, and it's not always moral. And so what are we doing when we're seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven? It's not always black and white, and it's not always a right or wrong.”
“God is still God when we don't make the best decision. So when you and I make a decision that is not wise, God didn't go, oh, shoot, my whole plan just got messed up. I don't know what to do now.”
“Let the wise hear and increase in learning. So just succinctly, real quick, if this is the very words of God, and wisdom is... Thank you. seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven, probably one of the primary ways I can actively receive wisdom is by knowing and studying God's word.”
“If wisdom is seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven, then I better know God. I need to know Him. I want to be fluent in His character. I want to be fluent in the stories of scriptures.”
“I'm convinced one of the best ways to actively pursue, to actively receive wisdom is to read, study, and memorize God's Word.”
“The book of James would say, hey, James 1, verse 5, if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from God, who gives to all generously, actively receive.”
“One of the ways we can stop receiving wisdom is to not just do what God's already plainly told us to do. And I know there are many of us in this room that have something right now that God has told you to do, and you're putting it off.”
“If you and I are going to actively receive wisdom, we need to submit to the Word. We need to talk to God about it. We need to surround ourselves with the wise, but we also need to act on what God's already plainly told us to do, what he's already plainly told us to do.”
“The pursuit of wisdom begins right here, the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord. If wisdom is seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven, there's an assumption in what wisdom requires. And the assumption is this. There is a king in the world. There is a king in the world. And it is not you and I. It's the Lord.”
“Wisdom begins when our lives bow to the right king. If wisdom is seeking to live out God's good design on this side of heaven, then the first step in doing that is going, hey, God, you're in charge, not me. The most wise thing you could ever do in your life is submit your life to God.”
“The fear of the Lord is a submission to his good design. It's a declaration of, hey, God, what you say goes.”
“Wisdom begins by declaring, I can't do it. Jesus did it and I need him. And so when Jesus died on the cross, he died for fools like you and I. And he took all the consequences of our foolishness, all of our sin, all of our death, all the mess, he took it on himself.”
“Who is really God in your life? Who gets all of your attention? Who do you run to when you don't know what to do? Who gets the first phone call? Who gets the best of your finances? Who gets most of your emotional energy? And until that's the Lord, you won't discover what it looks like to walk in wisdom.”
“To the believer in the room, at least for a day or two, put down all the books, put down the phone calls, put down the coaches, put down the info sources, put down chat GPT, and say, hey God, I want to bow to you and you only. I want to hear your voice. God, I want to fear you.”
