The wise men, a.k.a. the magi, and tonight I want to explore them. I want to just look into who are the wise men, because they're a little mysterious in certain ways. So the text we're going to be in tonight is Matthew 2. If you want to go ahead and turn to your Bibles, Matthew 2. We're going to read some of this together. [00:03:46] (20 seconds)

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose, and have come to worship him. But Herod the king heard this, and he was troubled, and all of Jerusalem with him. [00:04:50] (24 seconds)

They probably didn't show up until two or three years later. But people are always quick to say, oh, they weren't actually there. And yeah, that might be right. Then also something we also assume is that there's three of them. We assume that there's three wise men because there were three gifts given, gold, frankincense, and myrrh. [00:06:41] (18 seconds)

So we know that they studied astrology, because that's what led them to Christ. A star in the sky something about this star was incredible enough to where they showed up to king Herod and said hey we know a king was born we know he will be king of the Jews how we know that we're not entirely sure but they saw a star. [00:08:42] (23 seconds)

We need to be ready to move. God revealed the path, and they went. We don't know all the details that went into this. Some say it took over two years for them to get to Jesus. We don't know if that took them two years on their journey or if it took them two years to figure out what the message in the star was. [00:12:20] (21 seconds)

We don't know how far these men went. But what they were doing is they were studying God's creation and they saw a sign. They were studying what God had given them and they went. They acted upon what God showed them. God revealed the path they followed. They said, hey, God is doing something. There's something there and we got to go. [00:13:10] (24 seconds)

The second thing is in this moving and chasing after that star they have to have faith they have to have faith in whatever God is leading them to this king that this is where God's taking them that he's going to protect them so that's the first one we need to be ready to move and then we need to faithfully follow we need to faithfully follow where God takes us. [00:14:01] (23 seconds)

Thirdly, are we going to worship him wholeheartedly? Are we going to worship him wholeheartedly? In Matthew 2 .11, it says this, And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures, offered him gifts, gold, frankincense, and myrrh. However, how are we worshipping God today? [00:16:51] (29 seconds)

fourthly what the wise men remind us so we need to trust god's care we need to trust his hand over us in verse 12 after this incredibly long journey we don't know how far they went we don't know everything they experienced but verse 12 shows us that god protected them and be returned to herod they departed to their own country by another way by another way the promise of god our protection god will protect us whether that's in this life or the next god will keep his promises. [00:19:08] (41 seconds)
