#WorryStealsToday
“Jesus isn't pretending that life isn't hard. He's teaching us that anxiety is a terrible master. I know I'm teaching today. I hope you get something out of this. Amen. Here's the truth. Worry has never paid a bill. Worry has never healed a disease. Worry has never added a single hour to your life and all worry does is rob you of the strength god gave you today while convincing you that tomorrow depends entirely on you. Worry causes you to spend today's energy on tomorrow's possibilities even though tomorrow hasn't arrived yet.”

#RememberGodsFaithfulness
“Isn't it amazing how our memory is short when our trouble is fresh? Come here church. Complaining is often doubt with the voice. Every complainant is really saying, god, I know you did it yesterday but I'm not sure if you're able to do it again today. That's why in our text today in chapter six, Matthew writes, take no thought for tomorrow because tomorrow isn't the problem our trust is. The the issue has never been god's ability to provide. The issue is whether we have enough faith to remember that the god who provided yesterday is still the same god today and forevermore. Amen. And if he has never failed before, what makes us think he's going to start now?”

#SubmitToTheKing
“Every king expects surrender. That's why Jesus doesn't invite us to simply admire him. He tells us to submit to him. The question isn't just, is Jesus your savior? The question is, is he your king? Because there are many people who want Jesus to rescue them, but fewer who want him to rule them. We don't like when nobody we don't care who it is. Tell us what to do. Amen. Okay. Thank you. I I had at least one amen. Not only does he say seek his kingdom, he says, and his righteousness. In other words, seek not only his rule but seek his way. Uh-oh. Don't just ask god to bless your plans, submit your plans to his purpose.”

#GraceForTodayNotTomorrow
“So many of us allow tomorrow's possibilities to rob us of today's peace. You can't even live in peace without worrying about what's going to happen tomorrow. let problems that haven't happened yet still the joy god has given us right now. But scripture says, his mercies are new. How many? Every morning. Do you know why they're renewed every morning? Because god gives you today's grace for today's burdens. He has never promised today's grace for tomorrow's problems. That's why Jesus says in the very text, do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Hear me. Sufficient until the day is the evil thereof. In other words, today has enough battles. Hear me today has enough battles without borrowing tomorrows. I'm a say it again. Today has enough battles without borrowing tomorrows.”

#IdentityBeforeBehavior
“In chapter five, Jesus begin, Jesus doesn't begin with behavior. He starts with identity. Many of us are familiar what he opens up with. We we call them the beatitudes. Jesus doesn't begin by saying, here's what you need to do. He begins by saying, blessed are. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn. Blessed are the meek. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. Jesus here is describing the character of kingdom citizens. Before he changes their actions, he transforms their hearts. Before he tells them what to do, he tells them who they are because the truth is god isn't interested in people in producing people who merely look religious, he desires sons and daughters whose lives reflect the character of their father.”

#DelightInGodFirst
“David said, delight thyself also in the lord and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Notice, he doesn't say, get the desires first. He says, delight in god first. Seek ye first. You have to do it first and then all these things will be added. He not only gives you the desires of your heart, he begins shaping the desires of your heart. The things you used to chase no longer satisfy you because the closer you get to the king, the more your heart begins to love what he loves. Can I make one observation before I move on? When god is first, everything else finds its proper place.”

#FaithSpeaksNotFear
“That's exactly why Jesus says, your heavenly father knows. He's trying to replace our doubt with trust. He's trying to replace complaining with confidence. He's trying to move us from living like orphans to living like sons and daughters who know their father can be trusted. Hear me ladies and gentlemen. Worry is the language of fear. Complaining is the language of doubt but faith is the language of sons and daughters.”

#CreationNotAnxious
“He asked you to trust the provider. Remember who's speaking? This is the same Jesus who just a few verses earlier pointed to the birds of the air. He says, they don't sow, they don't reap, they don't gather into barns, yet your heavenly father feeds them. Then he pointed to the lilies of the field. They don't toil. They don't spin. Yet, Solomon and all his glory wasn't dressed like one of them. Now, don't misunderstand what Jesus is saying. Birds still fly. They still build nests. They still gather food. Flowers still grow. Well, god planted them. The point isn't that god's creation does nothing. The point is that god's creation doesn't have to live in anxiety.”
