Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

"Sometimes I've needed help in how I perceive what's going on around me. Sometimes I need a different perspective. Sometimes I need help even perceiving things that I don't know I need to perceive in order for me to move forward, in order for me to find a way through, in order for me to do things well, in order to bring about change for good." [00:02:52] (21 seconds)

"Every week, we've said that one of the things that's true about this community, about our community, about Christians around the world, is that we believe that what we can perceive with our senses is not all that there is. That there is actually a spiritual dimension to our reality, a spiritual realm. And that that spiritual realm has an impact on the world we can perceive, on the natural realm." [00:04:35] (22 seconds)

"Becoming aware of the spiritual dynamics at play can change the atmosphere in situations, in relationships, and in places. Perhaps today, the invitation for us is to, much like I did, put on glasses and realize that there's more to see than we had ever perceived or known that there was to see." [00:06:31] (20 seconds)

"When we fail to account for or believe in the spiritual dynamics that might be at play, we may miss the pathways towards breakthrough and blessing that God wants to offer through them. Through them. Now here's the thing. Israel has horses and chariots too. Israel has armies. There's nothing wrong with horses and chariots. There's nothing wrong with armies. Israel could have used their horses and chariots. But their trust is not primarily in their force." [00:10:17] (32 seconds)

"Perhaps today it's time to turn to God. To invite Him to give you insight into the spiritual dynamics at play. To ask Him to bring forth the spiritual resources to bear, the pathways to blessing. To ask Him what He might be up to. How it might bring a breakthrough that you couldn't have asked for, imagined, or conjured up through your own strength." [00:13:37] (28 seconds)

"Don't be afraid, the prophet answered. Those who are with us are more than those against us. Don't be afraid is a phrase that shows up in Scripture in one form or another time and time again. And in this case, Elisha is speaking to a man who wants to know what to do, but is gripped by fear and is in danger of acting out of that fear." [00:15:28] (20 seconds)

"Elisha prays that his servant would have eyes to see the spiritual dynamics. That he would be able to perceive what is going on in the spiritual realm. That God has a path towards breakthrough and blessing. That God is with them and on their side. It's almost like he gives the servant a moment like, like I had when I put on those glasses of saying, oh, this is what it looks like." [00:17:36] (25 seconds)

"How might it feel different for you and for the people around you if we consistently live with a sense of how God is for us in every situation, in every relationship, in every place, no matter what the odds, no matter what the circumstance, no matter how funky or intense the atmosphere might be. How might it be different if we had a picture? If we were able to perceive how God, how God is for us." [00:18:50] (25 seconds)

"Here are some things that will help us as we engage in perceiving what's going on in the spiritual dynamic. At the cross, Jesus defeats the powers of anything that could come against us, human or spiritual. He defeats the powers of sin and death. He defeats the enemy and anything that the enemy might conjure up against us. No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, no matter how we feel, how funky the atmosphere might feel, no matter what might be going on in the spiritual realm against us, Jesus has won the victory." [00:21:43] (36 seconds)

"Jesus has not just won the victory. Jesus has promised to be with us and sealed us with his Holy Spirit. The Lord is with us at every single moment and the Lord is fighting on our behalf to bring blessing, to bring peace, to bring love, to bring freedom, to bring goodness, and we can become aware of how that's going on moment after moment. If we simply have eyes to see. Have eyes to see." [00:22:31] (26 seconds)
