What Is Your Secret Sauce? | The House That Built Me

Acts 3 opens with Peter and John heading to the temple at the hour of prayer, not after a long spiritual warmup, but on the way to pray. The text pushes back on the idea that somebody has to be prayed up, trained up, and totally put together before God can use them. God qualifies people who know they need Him, while pride leaves people thinking they can handle the assignment on their own.

The Holy Spirit becomes the secret sauce behind the church’s power after Pentecost. Peter and John had been filled up, and that filling changed what they saw at the gate called Beautiful. The lame man had sat there for forty years, close to the temple but never brought into the place where power should have been. The gate called Beautiful carried the idea of the right season, and the timing was about to shift.

Peter’s command, “Look at us,” pulled the man out of begging and into expectation. Peter did not offer silver or gold, but he gave what he had: the power of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Christ received all the glory, but Peter still understood that Jesus had entrusted him with something to release. The false humility that says, “It is all God, so there is nothing for anybody to do,” misses the partnership of being co-laborers and ambassadors of Christ.

Ephesians places Christ far above every principality, power, might, dominion, and every name. God then seats believers together with Christ, which means prayer does not begin with begging heaven to come down. Prayer moves from heaven to earth, from a position of authority backed by all of heaven. Moses standing before Pharaoh gives the picture: God made Moses “as God to Pharaoh,” not because Moses originated power, but because God sent him as His representation.

Romans 12 shows that authority requires a renewed mind. The Word must confront thoughts of being unqualified, powerless, or overwhelmed by the enemy. Faith comes by hearing, and speaking Scripture helps lodge truth in the mind until the soul lines up with the spirit.

The healed man walked, leaped, praised God, and held onto Peter and John. The church cannot stop at a healing, a salvation decision, or a moment of freedom. Jesus calls disciples to help new people walk, get strong, renew their minds, and learn how to live this Christian thing. The gospel is not an information house. The gospel is power, confirmed through signs, wonders, healing, freedom, and transformed lives.
