#GiveWhatYouHave
“``You might be in a deserted place right now. You might be feeling lost and alone. You might be feeling like you're carrying burdens that are too heavy to carry. And if you are, what I'm about to ask you is gonna sound like a silly question. But even out there in that deserted place, what do you have to give? It might not be much. It may just be a piece of bread or a piece of fish or a potato. It may just be a hand to hold or a phone call or a forgiveness or a prayer. It may just be a shoulder to cry on, but whatever you have, I promise you there's somebody out there in the world that it would seem like a banquet to them.”

“But then right there in the passage, Jesus offers us an alternative, an alternative way of looking at the world, an alternative way of looking at the crowd. It's the exact opposite of what the disciples do. Instead of turning inward, Jesus turns outward. Instead of turning inward and protecting himself, Jesus turns outward and says, how can we help? Instead of looking at the world through the eyes of fear, Jesus looks through the eyes of faith. And he wants the disciples to do the same.”

#MiraclesChangeUs
“And that's what Jesus calls on the disciples to do. Take whatever you have and fill yourself up, but do so by giving it away. As it turns out, the disciples do have some bread. They do have some fish. They do have a little bit, and that Jesus gives them the opportunity to give it, and a miracle happens. But you know what? I I think when Jesus performs miracles, it's not just to provide for us. Believe it or not, when Jesus performs a miracle, it's also to change To change us so that we can see the world through the eyes of the one who performs miracles. To see the world in a different way.”

#SmallGiftsBigHope
“And that's how Jesus wants us to see the world even in the deserted place that even out there in the place where we feel most alone, there's possibility. There's possibility with even what little we have, there's possibility that god can do something great, that god can do something restorative, that god can do something to make someone out there in need. Remember that they're not alone. And how does Jesus train the disciples to see that way? How does Jesus try to train us to see that way? He calls on them to give.”
