Psalm 67 opens with a prayer that God would be merciful, bless His people, and cause His face to shine upon them. The psalmist does not ask for a blessing that stops at his own front door. The psalmist asks for blessing that reaches mama, daddy, brother, sister, cousin, coworker, the whole nation, and everybody connected. God’s faithfulness and salvation were never meant to be held tight by one person. God’s blessing is meant to run across the land.
The word “amen” then carries more weight than a habit at the end of a prayer. Amen means “so let it be,” or “that is true.” The tongue can bring agreement to things that do not benefit a life, so amen cannot be said to everything. The declaration calls for agreement with what God is doing, not with every negative word, every fearful report, or every bad label placed on a day. A hard moment does not automatically make for a bad day, because God can still work that thing for good.
God’s yoking brings mercy and blessing close. The yoke is not merely about being connected to a man or woman. The yoke means being tied to what brings breakthrough and moving in the same direction God is moving. Goodness and mercy follow those who belong to God, even when a day did not go according to plan. God’s direction includes healing, deliverance, provision, and doors of opportunity.
God’s yanking also deserves an amen. God is a righteous Judge whose scales are fair, and God sees the heart rather than appearance, background, skin color, speech, or status. God sometimes withholds what guilt deserved. God yanks back anger, bitterness, destruction, chaos, death, consequences, and judgments that could have fallen. The blood on the doorpost pictured the cry, “God, bypass my home,” and mercy still gives thanks for what never came.
God’s yielding completes the declaration. The earth yielding its increase means God grants, gives, bestows, and permits provision to come. The increase in Psalm 67 is not only agricultural. God can bring spiritual and material increase, moving a life from not enough to more than enough. God’s yielding also requires a changed mindset, because a person used to lack must become willing to embrace the new life, new provision, and new self God brings forth.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Amen is a serious agreement [00:13:27] The word amen does not function as empty church language. Amen declares that what was spoken is true and should come to pass. The tongue must not casually agree with fear, defeat, or words that poison faith. God’s people need discernment about what deserves their agreement. [13:27]
- 2. Blessing should reach beyond self [00:10:51] The psalmist asks God to bless more than one life. God’s favor is not a private possession meant to make one person comfortable while everybody else struggles. Prayer becomes less selfish when blessing is desired for every person connected. God’s goodness creates room for another person’s joy without diminishing anybody else’s portion. [10:51]
- 3. God yanks back deserved consequences [00:25:36] God’s righteousness includes mercy that withholds what guilt could have brought. God can pull back anger, chaos, destruction, death, and consequences that seemed justified. Gratitude deepens when a life remembers not only what God gave, but also what God refused to allow. Mercy is often visible in the trouble that never arrived. [25:36]
- 4. God permits increase to come forth [00:30:18] The earth yielding increase points to God granting provision and blessing. God’s increase reaches beyond crops into spiritual growth, material provision, and fresh opportunities. A life that has waited long must still be ready to receive what God permits to rise. God’s answer may require a new mindset before it can be fully embraced.
