Sanctified Minds: Embracing Holiness for God's Purpose
Devotional
Day 1: Sanctification as a Divine Purpose
Sanctification is not merely about being clean but being set apart for God's divine purpose. It involves every part of our being—spirit, soul, and body—dedicated to God's service. This dedication makes us valuable vessels in His kingdom, ready for His use. The essence of sanctification is not about adhering to a strict legalistic lifestyle but allowing the Word of God to wash, renew, and transform our minds. This transformation is crucial in a world filled with deception and filth, targeting the church and its believers. Sanctification means being set apart for God's divine purpose, much like the vessels in the temple of Jerusalem, which were dedicated solely to God's service. This dedication is not just about being clean and holy but about being wholly consecrated to God's plan. [06:43]
"Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:23 ESV)
Reflection: What specific area of your life can you dedicate more fully to God's service today, and how can you begin to do so?
Day 2: The Mind's Role in Sanctification
The mind, a crucial part of the soul, requires special attention. It encompasses memory, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, reason, discernment, and even dreams and visions. Each function must align with God's Word and purpose, ensuring our thoughts and actions reflect His will. The mind is a battlefield where the forces of good and evil contend for control. In this perilous time, where deception abounds, the sanctification of our minds is not just desirable but essential. It is a progressive work, a journey we must embark on with prayer and dedication, seeking God's grace to transform every area of our lives. [19:49]
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." (Romans 12:2 ESV)
Reflection: What thoughts or beliefs do you need to bring into alignment with God's Word today, and what steps can you take to renew your mind?
Day 3: Memory and Knowledge
A sanctified memory remembers God's deeds and forgets past grievances. Knowledge must be rooted in biblical truth, not mere academic understanding. This ensures that our understanding and wisdom are grounded in God's Word, guiding our decisions and actions. The mind's role in sanctification involves a conscious effort to remember God's faithfulness and let go of past hurts. By rooting our knowledge in Scripture, we ensure that our understanding and wisdom are aligned with God's truth, enabling us to navigate life's challenges with discernment and grace. [24:03]
"My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you." (Proverbs 3:1-2 ESV)
Reflection: What past grievance do you need to let go of today, and how can you focus on remembering God's faithfulness instead?
Day 4: Wisdom and Understanding
Wisdom is the ability to know what to do, when, and with whom. Understanding involves correctly applying knowledge, ensuring our actions align with God's will. These functions of the mind are essential for navigating life's challenges and fulfilling God's purpose. Wisdom and understanding are gifts from God that enable us to make decisions that honor Him and reflect His character. By seeking wisdom and understanding, we position ourselves to be used by God in powerful ways, becoming vessels of honor ready for the Master's use. [48:17]
"Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth." (Proverbs 4:5 ESV)
Reflection: In what area of your life do you need God's wisdom today, and how can you seek His guidance in making a decision?
Day 5: The Importance of Discernment
Discernment involves judging rightly according to God's standards. It requires a sanctified mind, open to persuasion by the truth, and willing to evaluate situations and decisions through the lens of Scripture. This discernment is crucial in a world filled with deception. As believers, we are called to be discerning, testing everything against the truth of God's Word. By cultivating discernment, we protect ourselves from deception and align our lives with God's will, becoming effective witnesses for His kingdom. [01:09:05]
"But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil." (Hebrews 5:14 ESV)
Reflection: What decision or situation in your life requires discernment today, and how can you practice discernment by evaluating it through the lens of Scripture?

Sermon Clips
The essence of sanctification isn't some strict legalistic way of living. It's not really what sanctification is. It's the word of God washing your mind, renewing your mind, changing how you thought, changing how you speak, and changing how you act. Paul here prays for these young believers, and yet they were mature in Christ. [00:04:55]
Sanctification means to be made holy, to be purified, to be consecrated or set aside for a divine purpose. When a vessel in the temple in Jerusalem was sanctified, it means that vessel was taken. It wasn't used for anything else, not drinking, not making your daily meals. That vessel in the temple, when it was consecrated or sanctified, it was only used for that purpose. [00:06:00]
Sanctification means an absolute consecration. Look what he says, sanctify you holy. It's a prayer, and I'm praying, and I'm preaching it to you now. Oh, that Christ, oh, that the God of peace might sanctify you holy, that he might set you aside. Maybe you're not quite there yet. You're saved, you love Jesus, but you know there's areas in your life. [00:07:20]
The mind, the emotions, and the will—this is what the soul is. This is what makes you who you are. Let me go a bit deeper. Say I want to deal with being totally sanctified, wholly sanctified, but I'm leaving out the body and I'm leaving out the spirit, and I want to concentrate on the soul. [00:19:49]
Memory is only one function of the mind of man. That mind, when it is not operating the way God wants it to, is in desperate need of sanctification. Here tonight, you're gonna have to ask yourself, is my memory sanctified? This one, just for a moment, just concentrate on the area of memory. [00:23:47]
Knowledge is what you store up in your head. The mind actually has a function of knowledge. What is knowledge? It's knowing information, gathering information, or it's facts and details about many different subjects. It can either be sanctified or unsanctified. Where do you get your information from? Who do you get your information from? [00:36:54]
Understanding comes after knowledge. It's something that comes out of knowledge. It's the evaluating of all that you've gathered, all the sermons you've heard, all the books that you've read, all the Bible reading that you've done. So you've gained a lot of information and facts and details. You've been informed. You can spill it off very easily. [00:48:17]
Wisdom is the ability to know what to do. A wise man is someone who knows what to do in hard situations, in every situation. Where do you think I get that knowledge from to know what to do? I know what to do. There are certain situations I've turned to Candace and I've said, I don't know what to do. [00:56:39]
Judging does not mean to be judgmental or critical. Do you know when you judge biblically, you're not allowed to make false accusations? You're not allowed to point the finger when you don't have evidence. You've got to take time. You're going to be slow, slow to speak. That's how I know you're sanctified. [01:09:05]
The spiritual man judges all things truly, accurately, biblically. He has the ability, the maturity, the spirituality to judge all things. He'll judge preaching. I don't mind you judging my preaching. I invite it. We're to judge things in this church, in marriages, in our fellowship together. What does the word judge mean? [01:12:49]
How do you sanctify your dream life? It's out of your control. It's subconscious. You're fast asleep. A vision is when you're awake. Dreams are when you're asleep. Brother Keith, this dream was from the devil. There are dreams from the devil. There really are. There's some dreams from God. There's an awful lot of dreams because of pizza. [01:15:48]
I've just given you seven functions of the brain, the mind, and how you're to apply the word of God to these seven areas. Either your mind is unsanctified, maybe before. I don't want you being like me at school, saying, how do you study? What do you mean a renewed mind? I want you to understand what it means for God to sanctify your mind. [01:20:22]
