52s
“So there are times when it feels like Jesus needs to be interpreted In order for us to understand, it's just a little complex. For instance, some of the parables can be very confusing or some of that apocalyptic stuff about judgment and end times. on the issue of who you are, there is no confusion. You may have heard it too often. You may not wanna hear it again. But together, you are already the salt of the earth. Together, you are already the light in God's world.”
44s
“You may have heard it too often. You may not wanna hear it again. But together, you are already the salt of the earth. Together, you are already the light in God's world. if you believe in Jesus, and not the Jesus we usually carry around in our heads that tends to look and sound like us, if you believe in the actual Jesus that we find in the gospels, then you will have realized that your poor behavior will not do.”
57s
“is the context, the verses that come next where we are told specifically, be reconciled with others. Turn the other cheek. Be generous. Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. That's the content. That's what it means to be light or salt. So we know what these say. We know what they mean. But that content, turn the other cheek. Love your enemies. That's like keeping the couch crumb free. Jesus could not possibly have meant that we are really supposed to do those things. So we just rationalize our behavior. We keep on hating our enemies and punching the people that make us mad in some cases. We just keep rationalizing our very unsalty, unlit behavior.”
