A Sacred Transition

Second Timothy 4:7 sets the day under Paul’s measure of a life that stayed faithful. Paul does not say every battle was won; Paul says the good fight was fought. Paul does not say somebody else’s race was finished; Paul says the assigned race was finished. Faithfulness becomes the measuring stick, not the size of the ministry, not the miracles witnessed, not the miles traveled, but the grace to keep the faith without blight or stain.

God’s call in 1999 began in a living room with no blueprint, no guarantees, and no clear idea where the journey would lead. Obedience had one responsibility: say yes when God had spoken. God’s faithfulness over nearly three decades is not treated as an ending, but as the next proof that the Lord keeps building what belongs to him.

Psalm 126:3 puts the credit where it belongs: “The Lord has done great things.” The joy of Harvest comes from seeing God restore families, raise up leaders, baptize new believers, fill men, women, and children with the Holy Spirit, heal marriages, heal broken hearts, and send over $1,300,000 into missions around the world. Christ’s work at Harvest has never been about one man or one family. Jesus Christ has been the one Savior, and he has been building his church every step of the way.

Ecclesiastes 3 names the wisdom needed for this kind of day: to everything there is a season. Assignments have seasons: a season to plant, a season to build, a season to lead, a season to plow ahead and take ground, and sometimes a season to hand the assignment to someone else. The transition into Trevor’s leadership is not a sign that the work is finished. The transition says God is beginning another chapter in Harvest’s history.

Matthew 16:18 anchors the whole moment in Jesus’ own words: “I will build my church.” Jesus does not call it Mike’s church or Trevor’s church, but his church. That truth gives peace because under-shepherds change, but the chief Shepherd does not. God’s preserving power has kept Harvest standing even when the enemy threw everything at it, and that standing witness says the Lord is with his people.
