#ExpectEncounter
“``Is there anything that would change if you just fully expected every time you came here on a Sunday? I'm going to encounter God today. Is there anything that changes in how you come through the doors or how you leave your car or how you come and sit down or when you arrive or anything like that? Does anything change if that was your mindset? If that was your belief? Because he's here. So if we didn't encounter him today, it wasn't on him. Maybe it was on us, maybe it was on you. We can discuss that later. But he is here and he is at work. The spirit of the shofar is a life that stays awake to God's presence. That's what the spirit of the shofar is. So if I can leave you with a simple sermon for today to remember, I would probably just say, God is always present. The question is whether we are ready to notice him.”

#PrepareDailyEncounter
“Let me change the question and give you one more to consider. If you knew you were going to encounter God every day, what would you do or change or how would you prepare? Because this one is actually more accurate. God is, he exists, he wants to be known, he has spoken through his word, he has spoken through creation, he has spoken through his people, He speaks through his spirit to us. We don't wait for him. He waits for us. God wants to be known. James tells us draw near to God and he will draw near to you but he doesn't move, he is unchanging. And so if there is distance, the logical answer is I have moved.”

#AlwaysHereNotice
“Because he's here. The question is whether we are ready to notice him. And so there's great value in having literal shofars and having maybe set an alarm on your phone or lent or advent or these things, but the other question is God is always present. Are we ready to notice him?”
