“Only god's word gives us something greater than our circumstances. Relief comes when we stop allowing our circumstances to have the final word. If our circumstances have the final word, fear will often win. But when god's word has the final word, faith can rise. That doctor's report may be real. The financial difficulty may be real. The broken relationship may be real. The disappointments may be real, but none of those things are greater than God. Romans ten seventeen teaches us to continually bring our hearts back to what God has said. God's word moves us from fear towards faith. Faith grows when we hear God's word, and as faith grows, fear loses some of its power.”

“That's a very important part of reading God's word. It's not just reading it, but applying it. God's word nourishes us by teaching us all these things. But God's word is what is what I guess one of the greatest dangers of what I'm trying to say is that in studying the Bible, if only you're trying to do it for knowledge, but not knowledge with obedience. There is a difference. A lot of people can you can read God's word, but if you don't take it in and and let it sink in and marinate if you will, then you're not gonna get anything out of it. We can know scripture without allowing scripture to change us. It's that simple. We can read about forgiveness and remain bitter. We can read about humility and remain proud proudful. We can read about faith and continue to live in fear. We can read about holiness and continue making compromises with sin. True spiritual nourishment occurs when God's word moves from the page to the mind, to the heart, and finally in our lives.”

“We might summarize it kind of this way. We hear the word, the word produces faith, faith produces rest, and trust. Trust produces peace, and peace produces relief. God's word gives us a place to risk when our minds are tired, when our hearts are burdened, and our circumstances are uncertain. So when we need relief, we don't merely need to escape our circumstances. We need to hear God's voice above the noise of our circumstances.”

“Jesus was teaching us something fundamental about human life. We need physical food to nourish our bodies, but we also need God's word to sustain the spiritual life. We would never expect our physical bodies to remain healthy if we stopped eating. Right? In the same way we should not expect our spiritual lives to remain strong if we neglect God's word. This gives us an important question to ask ourselves. How often are we feeding our souls? We may eat three meals a day, but perhaps we give our souls only a few minutes of scripture or just only when we have time. You know what your mom always told you? I know what mom always told me. If it's important, you make time. Jesus reminds us that God's word is not an optional addition to the Christian walk. It is a spiritual nourishment.”

The more we know Jesus Christ through scripture, the more his character should become evident in our lives. The goal of bible study is not simply to become more knowledgeable about the bible, is to become more like Christ revealed in the bible.”

We hear that god is faithful, that he is present, that he forgives, and that he provides, and that he cares for his children. Sometimes relief begins simply by hearing the right voice.”

“Faith does not mean pretending that our problems do not exist. Faith means believing that God is greater than our problems. When we are hurting, God's word does not necessarily remove the circumstance immediately. Instead, it gives us confidence that we do not face the circumstances alone. This is where relief begins. The situation may still be difficult, but our perspective changes because we have been reminded of god's character.”
