“``Knowing the truth isn't the same as living the truth. God desires transformation, not just participation. And we say it often I say it often, guys, let's be the thermostat, not the thermometer. Guys, let's lead the way. And that's not me saying be fake. It's me saying, let's be transformed, not just participate. Religion can change behavior, but God changes our hearts. Religion says, clean yourself up, and Jesus says, I'll make you new. The moment you begin relationship. And may I even be so bold to say that in the drawing of you to God, there's already work being accomplished before you pray that first prayer, father forgive me.”

“Religion can change behavior, but God changes our hearts. Religion says, clean yourself up, and Jesus says, I'll make you new. The moment you begin relationship. And may I even be so bold to say that in the drawing of you to God, there's already work being accomplished before you pray that first prayer, father forgive me. He's the one that sustains it. He's the one that continues it. That's why throughout the gospels, Jesus repeatedly confronted the religious people who looked holy on the outside, but were far from God on the inside. The question isn't, do I know church? The question is, do I know Jesus? That's good. It's not how much bible do I know. It's how much of the bible am I allowing to change me?”

“But it's not about the obedience gaining us love. It's out of love that our obedience flows. Because when God changes our hearts, it changes our he changes our decisions too. We forgive differently. We speak differently. We spend, oh, differently. We serve differently. We love differently. Not because somebody is forcing you, but because there's a transformation work in you. And the Christian life isn't about behavior modification, it is spiritual transformation. And spiritual transformation transforms everything around us. Because here's the key, if it's behavior modification, we are the source. But true heart change only comes from the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the source of our heart change.”

“And spiritual transformation transforms everything around us. Because here's the key, if it's behavior modification, we are the source. But true heart change only comes from the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the source of our heart change. And this might be the most important part of this whole message. Paul says that this change is produced by the spirit, not by effort. Say it with me. It's produced by the spirit produced by the spirit, not by effort. It's not my job to change my heart. It's holy spirit's job to do that work, and it's my job to walk out what he's done. You hear the difference, guys? Here's the thing. We recognize that we can't transform ourselves. We can improve ourselves. We can educate ourselves. We can motivate ourselves, but only the holy spirit can can transform”
