Revival Generation: Igniting Passion and Purpose in Faith

Summary

### Summary

This past week, our youth had an incredible experience at Student Life Camp at Cedarville University. We took 74 junior high and senior high students and leaders, and the camp was divided into two main activities: rec camp for middle schoolers and mission camp for high schoolers. The middle schoolers engaged in various recreational activities, while the high schoolers participated in a local mission called the Mission of Mary, an urban farm that produces 67,000 pounds of produce annually. This mission work allowed our students to serve the community by pulling weeds, planting vegetables, and more.

The theme for this year's camp was "Revival Generation," focusing on what revival truly means. Pastor Matt, our camp pastor, emphasized that revival starts with an inward inventory of our hearts and lives. We explored various biblical stories, such as the woman at the well and Peter's restoration, to understand how revival begins with God's people. Pastor Matt also highlighted that revival opens the door to awakening, urging us to be passionate about what God is passionate about.

Throughout the week, we delved into Psalm 85 and the story of Daniel, who stood firm in his faith despite being in a foreign land. This was a powerful reminder for our students to remain steadfast in their faith amidst the distractions and challenges of today's world. The week concluded with a focus on the Great Commission, encouraging us to make disciples and worship Jesus wholeheartedly.

I want to extend my gratitude to our volunteer leaders who sacrificed their time and energy to make this week possible. Their dedication is invaluable. Additionally, thank you to Gathering Point Church for your generosity, which helped alleviate the financial burden for many students. As we return home, let's continue to pray for our students and leaders, asking God to bring revival in our church, community, and world.

Devotional

### Day 1: Revival Begins Within

Revival starts with an inward inventory of our hearts and lives. Before we can see revival in our community, we must first examine our own spiritual condition and align ourselves with God's will. This personal reflection sets the tone for broader spiritual awakening. Revival is not just an external event but an internal transformation that begins with each individual. It requires us to look deeply into our hearts, identify areas where we have strayed from God's path, and seek His guidance to realign ourselves with His purposes.

Taking an inward inventory means being honest about our spiritual state, confessing our sins, and seeking God's forgiveness. It involves a commitment to personal growth and a willingness to let God work in our lives. When we allow God to transform us from the inside out, we become vessels through which His revival can flow into our communities and beyond. [41:25]

Bible Passage:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" - Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

Reflection:
What specific areas of your life do you need to bring before God for an inward inventory? How can you start this process today?

### Day 2: Passion for God's Work

Revival involves getting passionate about what God is passionate about. This means engaging in activities and missions that align with God's heart, such as serving the community and spreading the gospel. Our actions should reflect our commitment to God's purposes. When we align our passions with God's, we find ourselves drawn to the things that matter most to Him, such as justice, mercy, and love.

Engaging in God's work requires us to step out of our comfort zones and actively participate in His mission. Whether it's volunteering at a local shelter, sharing the gospel with a neighbor, or supporting a mission project, our involvement demonstrates our dedication to God's kingdom. By passionately pursuing what God is passionate about, we become catalysts for change and instruments of His love in the world. [42:53]

Bible Passage:
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

Reflection:
What is one specific way you can align your passions with God's work this week? How can you actively participate in serving your community or spreading the gospel?

### Day 3: Biblical Examples of Revival

Stories like the woman at the well and Peter's restoration illustrate that revival often follows a period of brokenness and repentance. These stories remind us that God can bring new life and purpose even from our failures and shortcomings. The woman at the well experienced a profound transformation after encountering Jesus, and Peter was restored after denying Christ. Both stories highlight the power of God's grace and the potential for renewal.

Revival is not limited to those who have it all together; it is for the broken and repentant. When we come to God with our failures and seek His forgiveness, He can turn our lives around and use us for His glory. These biblical examples encourage us to trust in God's ability to bring revival, no matter our past mistakes. [42:53]

Bible Passage:
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." - Psalm 51:10 (ESV)

Reflection:
Reflect on a time when you experienced brokenness and repentance. How did God bring new life and purpose to you during that period?

### Day 4: Standing Firm in Faith

The story of Daniel teaches us the importance of standing firm in our faith, even in challenging environments. Just as Daniel remained faithful in Babylon, we are called to remain steadfast amidst the distractions and challenges of our world today. Daniel's unwavering commitment to God, despite the pressures to conform, serves as a powerful example for us.

Standing firm in faith means holding onto our beliefs and values, even when it is difficult. It requires courage, perseverance, and trust in God's sovereignty. In a world that often opposes Christian values, we must be like Daniel, who chose to honor God above all else. By standing firm, we become witnesses to God's faithfulness and inspire others to do the same. [59:19]

Bible Passage:
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)

Reflection:
What are some challenges you face in standing firm in your faith? How can you draw strength from Daniel's example to remain steadfast in your commitment to God?

### Day 5: The Great Commission

Revival leads to action, specifically the Great Commission. We are called to make disciples and share the love of Jesus with others. This mission is not just for a week at camp but is a lifelong commitment to living out our faith and spreading the gospel. The Great Commission is a call to all believers to actively participate in God's redemptive plan for the world.

Making disciples involves more than just sharing the gospel; it requires investing in the spiritual growth of others, teaching them to follow Jesus, and encouraging them to do the same. It is a continuous process that extends beyond our immediate circles to the ends of the earth. By embracing the Great Commission, we fulfill our purpose as followers of Christ and contribute to the advancement of His kingdom. [01:00:35]

Bible Passage:
"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'" - Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

Reflection:
Who is someone in your life that you can disciple or share the love of Jesus with? What steps can you take today to begin fulfilling the Great Commission in your own context?
