Life often squeezes us, revealing what’s truly inside. When a Christian is pressed, what should come out is Christ Himself. This truth was vividly illustrated on the disc golf course this week, when Shane, after being swarmed and stung by hornets, responded not with anger or obscenity, but with the character of Christ. It’s in these moments of pressure that the world sees who we really are, and it’s my prayer that, like Shane, Christ would be what comes out of each of us.
We are reminded in Revelation that Christ is not distant or passive. He is the exalted, risen Savior, actively interceding for us, defending us, and holding us securely in His right hand. The imagery of the remora and the shark captures this relationship: we are the remora, clinging to Christ, our great Shark. As long as we stay attached to Him, we have nothing to fear—He provides our protection, our provision, and our propulsion. The more we use our “head of faith” to stay stuck to Him, the more we experience His supernatural work in our lives, taking us places we could never go on our own.
Everything else we chase in life—success, pleasure, security—are like soap bubbles: they pop as soon as we catch them, leaving us empty. Only Christ satisfies. He is in the midst of His church, tending to us, providing the light we need to shine in a dark world. Our role is to stay close, to receive from Him, and to reflect His light to others.
The Word of God is our lifeline. It is a sharp, two-edged sword, cutting away what doesn’t belong, shaping us into Christ’s likeness. We don’t need to understand everything at once; God gives us just what we need, when we need it, as we faithfully read and meditate on His Word. The enemy will do everything to keep us from it, but it is in the Word that we hear Christ’s voice, find peace, and see His glory. When we see Him as He truly is—glorious, powerful, and loving—our fears melt away. He tells us, “Stop being afraid.” He holds the keys to life and death, and nothing can touch us outside His will.
So, let’s embrace our role as remoras, clinging to Christ, digging the ride He has for us, and letting His Word transform us daily. In doing so, we become living witnesses of His power and love, no matter what life throws our way.
Key Takeaways
- 1. What’s inside comes out when we’re squeezed. True spiritual maturity is revealed not in comfort, but in crisis. When life presses us, our reactions show whether Christ truly lives in us or if we’re still clinging to the world. The goal is not to suppress our humanity, but to be so filled with Christ that He is what naturally overflows, even in pain or confusion. [13:01]
- 2. Staying “stuck” to Christ is the secret to a life of supernatural provision, protection, and purpose. Like the remora attached to the shark, our security and direction come not from our own strength or wisdom, but from remaining close to Jesus. Faith is the “head” that keeps us attached, and the more we exercise it, the more we experience God’s faithfulness in ways we could never orchestrate ourselves. [35:24]
- 3. The Word of God is not just information—it is transformation. God’s Word is a sharp, two-edged sword, cutting away what is unhealthy and shaping us into Christ’s image. We must not be content with secondhand spirituality or devotionals alone; we need to read, meditate, and let the Spirit apply the Word directly to our lives, even when it convicts or challenges us. [54:21]
- 4. God’s sovereignty means we are immortal until He is finished with us. Christ holds the keys to life and death, and nothing can happen to us outside His will. This truth frees us from fear—whether of danger, failure, or even death—because our times are in His hands. The call is to trust Him, even when His plans are mysterious or frightening, knowing that His love and power are absolute. [24:29]
- 5. Seeing Christ’s glory changes everything. When we truly behold who Jesus is—His holiness, power, and love—our fears, ambitions, and anxieties lose their grip. The more we see Him in His Word, the more we are transformed, and the more we can “dig the ride” of life, no matter the circumstances. Our greatest need is not for better circumstances, but for a clearer vision of Christ. [12:21]
