Bible ReadingRevelation 22:1-21 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”
[07:33]Revelation 19:10 “Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, ‘You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.’ For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
[16:48]Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
Genesis 3:22-24 “Then the LORD God said, ‘Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—’ therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.”
Observation questions- In Revelation 22:1-5, what details are given about the river, the tree of life, the curse, and what God’s servants will experience in the city? [09:14]
- Comparing Genesis 3:22-24 with Revelation 22:1-2, what changed about access to the tree of life from the beginning of the Bible to the end? [10:46]
- When John falls down before the angel in Revelation 22:8-9 and Revelation 19:10, how is he corrected, and what exact command is repeated? [19:01]
- In Revelation 22, what phrases show urgency, openness, and finality all at once: “I am coming soon,” “do not seal up,” and the descriptions of who is inside or outside the city? [23:46]
Interpretation questions- If the tree of life appears again in Revelation 22 after being guarded in Genesis 3, what does that suggest about God’s purpose in blocking access earlier? Was that judgment only, or mercy as well? [10:46]
- John’s desire to worship was not wrong, but the target was wrong. What does that reveal about worship being more than emotion? How does Revelation tie worship to allegiance? [19:01]
- Jesus repeats, “I am coming soon.” How should “soon” be understood in this chapter? Is it mainly giving a date to calculate, or is it meant to press the church into readiness and obedience now? [24:42]
- Revelation 22 says the book must not be sealed and must not be changed. Why might people be tempted to soften, tidy up, or ignore parts of this book, especially the parts about judgment and divided paths? [40:35]
Application questions- Revelation leaves only two paths and two loyalties before us. Where does divided allegiance show up most easily in everyday life right now: habits, entertainment, money, comfort, relationships, or something else? [05:44]
- “Worship God” sounds simple, but daily life exposes what the heart actually bows to. What has been competing for worship lately? What tends to get first attention, strongest affection, or quickest obedience? [48:14]
- Jesus says, “I am coming soon,” and that leaves no room for drifting. What has looked like spiritual procrastination lately? Is there anything that keeps getting put off even though it needs to be dealt with now? [25:41]
- Revelation calls for more than Sunday words. Are there parts of life that still get kept back from Jesus, like private compromises, recurring sins, or “just this one area” thinking? What would whole-hearted allegiance look like there? [30:03]
- Forgiveness is not optional for those who have been forgiven. Is there anyone who still needs to be forgiven, even if that process feels slow and painful? What makes that so hard, and what would obedience look like this week? [34:33]
- The world keeps reading the lives of Christians. If pressure squeezed hard this week, what would likely come out: peace, truth, patience, and mercy, or irritation, fear, and self-protection? [37:46]
- The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come,” and the thirsty are invited to take the water of life without price. Who in everyday life seems thirsty, worn out, or spiritually empty? What might it look like to invite that person toward Jesus in a natural and honest way? [40:12]
