Revelation 19:11-21:8 - The End and the Beginning

John sees heaven opened and a white horse. The rider is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. Revelation’s first vision already named him the first and the last who holds the keys of death and Hades. Psalm 2 had promised a son who would rule the nations with an iron scepter, but Acts 4 says this king first surrendered to the kings of the earth. His way of conquering is to be conquered. The rider alone nullifies every counterfeit power, and the saints simply inherit the victory he won at the cross.

The thousand years are blessing. Satan is bound so he may not deceive the nations, and the saints reign with Christ as priests. Whether one says Christ returns before a literal millennium or that the thousand years span this age, the point stands. Christ restrains the enemy, raises his suffering servants, and throws open the nations for the gospel.

A great white throne appears and the books are opened. Human lives matter. Deeds reveal whom a person worships, and judgment is just and personal. Yet another book is opened, the Lamb’s book of life. The alpha and the omega writes sinners into life and invites the thirsty to drink without cost.

Then the goal arrives. The holy city descends. God dwells with his people. No more tears, no more death. The marriage supper of the Lamb eclipses the grisly supper of the birds. The conqueror’s heritage is sonship and a world made new, so the cowardly and the faithless are warned to hold fast and not drift back into Babylon’s lies.
