Jesus Christ stands in John 10 as the door of the sheep and the good shepherd who gives his life for the sheep. The thief comes with one aim, to steal, to kill, and to destroy, and the first thing the thief wants to steal is spiritual life. Physical life matters, blessings matter, healing matters, marriage and children matter, but the chief target is faith, fellowship with God, and eternal life.

John 4 shows Jesus offering living water to a Samaritan woman who had searched for satisfaction and kept coming back thirsty. Jacob’s well was old, respected, and religiously meaningful, but Jesus said that whoever drinks that water will thirst again. The woman’s five marriages and present cohabitation showed the human search for joy, peace, excitement, and assurance in things that cannot finally satisfy. Money, achievement, titles, castles, estates, and elections can still leave a man asking, “What next?” The water Jesus gives becomes a well inside, springing up into everlasting life.

Job’s story shows how the thief attacks a righteous man through cumulative pressure. Satan touched Job’s possessions, servants, children, and body, not merely to make him poor or sick, but to make him curse God and lose spiritual life. Job worshiped in ashes, yet Job also had open doors: fear and hidden pride. Fear says God is not adequate for protection. Anxiety says God does not care enough to plan the future. Hidden pride can live under righteous works until God opens the eyes. God restored Job when repentance, humility, forgiveness, and prayer came forth, and the restoration came with more.

Acts shows the same pattern in the early church. Threats did not silence Peter and John. Pressure became prayer. Prayer brought boldness, shaking, signs, wonders, multitudes, and prison doors opened by angels. The enemy tried to shut down the gospel, but God turned the attack into more power and more fruit.

The cross shows why real life can only be in Jesus. Sin snuffs out life, and every guilt must be punished if God is just. God provided the Lamb, Jesus Christ, sinless and holy, who took human sin, shed his blood, died the death sinners deserved, conquered Satan, swallowed up death in victory, and rose again. Healing, miracles, prosperity, and promotion are good, but without eternal life they stop at the grave. Eternal life comes by humbling the heart, acknowledging sin, believing Jesus died and rose again, and receiving him as Lord, Savior, King, healer, deliverer, and life.
