Restoring Fellowship: The True Essence of the Gospel

Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

The Gospel is God's perfect work, offering miraculous and supernatural salvation. It is all of God; it is all God's action; it is God's work. He's been saying it at great length, he's been repeating it. God says, "I have pity for my Holy Name which the house of Israel had profaned." It's nothing in men; it is altogether because of God's love and grace and mercy and compassion. [00:04:39]

The steps of salvation reverse the fall of man. When humanity sinned, the first and most terrible consequence was the loss of fellowship with God. This broken relationship led to uncleanness, opposition to God's laws, and spiritual darkness. God's salvation reverses this order, starting with cleansing through the cross, granting a new mind and understanding, and leading to holiness. [00:10:29]

Being God's people means being His peculiar possession, separated from the world and under His special care. This relationship offers assurance of His personal interest, confidence in prayer, and the knowledge that His power supports us. In Christ, we are assured of God's eternal interest and care. This assurance provides comfort and strength, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love. [00:30:22]

The Gospel's ultimate goal is to bring us to God, not just to receive His gifts but to know Him personally. This is the essence of Christianity: a personal relationship with God, secured through Christ's sacrifice. In Christ, we are brought to an inheritance which is incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for us by God. [00:39:19]

The tragedy is that we somehow fail to realize the greatness of the Gospel. Indeed, it's often true even of those of us who are Christian. The greatest trouble with Christian people even tonight is that they don't realize the greatness of the Christian salvation. We stop at a given point, and we go no further, thereby detracting unconsciously from the glory of God. [00:06:00]

The Gospel is often neglected due to false assumptions about Christianity. Many believe it is merely about living a good life, missing its true greatness and completeness. The Gospel is God's perfect work, offering miraculous and supernatural salvation. It is all of God; it is all God's action; it is God's work. [00:02:34]

The Gospel's steps reverse the fall of man. Humanity's sin led to a broken relationship with God, uncleanness, and spiritual darkness. God's salvation starts with cleansing through the cross, granting a new mind and understanding, and leading to holiness, ultimately restoring us to fellowship with God. [00:10:29]
