Renewal is held out as one of the most beautiful promises in life, because life gets worn down by stress, disappointment, failure, and the daily grind. Renewal means to make new again, but human beings cannot rewind the story, undo bad decisions, erase old hurts, or repair life the way someone restores a car or refinishes furniture. True renewal comes from intimacy with Christ. God, the same one who brings spring after winter, brings new life where things looked bare, tired, and dead.

Lamentations 3 says that because of the Lord’s great love, his people are not consumed, because his compassions never fail. His mercies are new every morning, not every year, not every decade, but every morning. That means renewal is not something earned by being perfect. Renewal is a gift of grace that can begin right now, even in the tired places of faith, strained relationships, and regrets that will not seem to let go.

Paul’s call in Romans 12 says not to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. The word renewing matters because it is ongoing. Renewal happens as truth replaces toxic thoughts, as worries are surrendered instead of carried alone, and as forgiveness is chosen over bitterness. Renewal often begins small, with gratitude for a new day, time in Scripture and prayer, serving somebody else, or releasing a grudge that has been held too long.

Preparation asks whether Jesus has been invited into the ordinary places, not only the obvious hard places. James says not to merely listen to the word and deceive oneself, but to do what it says. The mirror image warns that a person can look, walk away, and forget. The little green snake lost in the soybeans becomes a picture of practice, because even small moments can train the heart to go to God first and not last.

Multiplication begins internally before it shows up numerically. Acts 2 shows a people devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, prayer, generosity, worship, and glad sincerity, and then the Lord added daily those who were being saved. The Lord multiplies through love for one another, shared burdens, open homes, disciple makers, new leaders, and people willing to put a hand in the air instead of waiting for somebody else.

Preparing for more means God prepares his people before he expands the work through them. Before he builds through the church, he wants to build the church. The call is to renew the heart, prepare the life, and multiply God’s work so that Christ’s love overflows through healthy disciples.
