Remembering the Power of the Gospel
Summary
In this sermon, I emphasized the importance of remembering the teachings of the Bible and the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I highlighted that preaching is not always about teaching something new, but often about reminding us of what we may have forgotten. I stressed the significance of the Gospel, the story of Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection, and how it has the power to transform lives. I also discussed the dangers of false teachers who deny the authority of God, live under their own authority, and use God's grace as a license to do whatever they want. I urged the congregation to uphold the truth, which is found in Jesus Christ and the Bible, and to live in a way that glorifies God.

Day 1: Truth Needs a Memory
In our spiritual journey, it's easy to forget God's truth when we're faced with trials and tribulations. We often get caught up in our circumstances and lose sight of the gospel. But God's truth is unchanging and everlasting. It's important to constantly remind ourselves of His word and His truths, so we can stand firm in our faith.
John 8:31-32 - "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'"
Reflection Question: Reflect on the last time you felt distant from God's truth. What were the circumstances and how did you remind yourself of the gospel? Moving forward, how can you ensure that you are constantly reminded of God's word and His truths?
Day 2: The Power of the Gospel
The gospel is not just a story; it's a life-changing truth that has the power to transform our perspectives and responses to situations. When we view the world through the lens of the gospel, we can respond with love, grace, and compassion, just as Jesus did.
Romans 1:16 - "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile."
Reflection Question: Can you recall a time when the gospel truth significantly transformed your perspective or response to a situation? How can you make the gospel the filter through which you view and respond to the world on a daily basis?
Day 3: The Importance of Spiritual Wisdom
Our human understanding is limited, but God's wisdom is infinite. Trusting in God's ways, even when they don't make sense to us, is a sign of spiritual maturity and wisdom.
Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Reflection Question: Think about a time when you leaned on your own understanding instead of trusting in God. What was the outcome? How can you cultivate spiritual wisdom and trust in God's ways, even when they don't make sense to you?
Day 4: Know What You Believe and Why You Believe It
Our faith is not blind; it's based on the truth of God's word. Being able to articulate our beliefs confidently is a sign of a mature faith and a deep understanding of the Bible.
1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."
Reflection Question: Can you confidently explain why you believe what you believe about your faith? If someone challenged your beliefs, would you be able to give a reason for your hope? How can you improve your Bible literacy to better understand and articulate your faith?
Day 5: The Church's Role in Upholding Truth
The church is not just a building; it's a community of believers who are called to uphold the truth of the gospel and mature together in faith. Each of us has a role to play in this process.
Ephesians 4:15-16 - "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
Reflection Question: How have you seen your church uphold the truth of the gospel and mature together as one body? What role do you play in this process? How can you contribute more to the growth and maturity of your church community?
Quotes
1. "Truth needs a memory. All statistics show you look at all the studies out there people on average only retain about 20 of what they hear. We need to be reminded often because we're forgetful people. We still have this sinful side that Strays from the things of God and a mind that wants to pull us that direction." [54:41] - 54:41
2. "God's ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. I don't understand all the things of God and honestly if I was God I think I would have done it a little bit different. But yet I've lived with God long enough I've seen him mightily work that even in those things I don't understand, I turn over to him and say God I trust you." [01:04:47] - 01:04:47
3. "Is faith on your list of things worth fighting for? Are you willing to stand firm and be courageous in the truth of God's word and what has transformed you and what has changed you hopefully from the inside out?" [42:11] - 42:11
4. "Life is a Battleground not just a playground. God wants us to have some fun he wants us to enjoy the blessings but we can't get lost in that alone and forget that we are truly in a war and there is a battle going on whether we recognize it or not." [44:37] - 44:37
5. "We often need to be reminded more than we need to be instructed. Preaching is not designed to teach us something new every sermon but to put us in remembrance to call to mind things forgotten. It's a theme all throughout scripture." [58:01] - 58:01
