Drifting away from Christ is a passive yet perilous journey that requires no effort, as the world naturally pulls us away from God. The Holy Spirit, however, awakens a desire within us to refocus on Jesus, which is a hopeful sign of spiritual renewal. In our current digital age, distractions are abundant, and it is easy to lose sight of our spiritual priorities. Hebrews 2:1 warns us to pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away. This drifting is not an abrupt departure but a gradual shift that can lead us far from our intended path. The Holy Spirit's work in our hearts is a beacon of hope, urging us to realign our focus on Jesus and His teachings. [03:13]
Hebrews 2:1-3 (ESV): "Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?"
Reflection: Identify one area in your life where you feel you might be drifting away from Christ. What practical steps can you take today to refocus your attention on Him?
Day 2: Encountering Jesus in Scripture
Engaging with the Word is not merely an intellectual exercise but a transformative encounter with Jesus. By immersing ourselves in scripture, we witness His love, teachings, and call to servanthood, which anchors us in His love and purpose. The scriptures reveal Jesus' heart for humanity, His compassion, and His divine wisdom. As we read and meditate on the Word, we are invited into a deeper relationship with Christ, where His teachings become a living reality in our lives. This encounter with Jesus through scripture is not just about gaining knowledge but about experiencing His presence and allowing His truth to transform us from the inside out. [06:00]
Colossians 3:16 (ESV): "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
Reflection: How can you create a daily habit of engaging with scripture that allows you to encounter Jesus more deeply? What specific time and place can you dedicate to this practice?
Day 3: Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
The essence of the Christian life is not in our labor for Jesus but in our continual gaze upon Him. As we fix our eyes on Jesus, our hearts are opened, and we are drawn closer to Him, experiencing His transformative power. This focus on Christ is not about striving to earn His favor but about resting in His presence and allowing His love to shape our lives. By keeping our eyes on Jesus, we find the strength and guidance needed to navigate the challenges of life. This intentional focus helps us to remain anchored in our faith, preventing us from being swayed by the distractions and pressures of the world. [08:25]
Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV): "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Reflection: What is one distraction in your life that prevents you from fixing your eyes on Jesus? How can you minimize or eliminate this distraction to focus more fully on Him?
Day 4: Praying for Satisfaction in Christ
Praying for satisfaction in Christ's steadfast love is crucial. This prayer aligns our desires with God's, breaking the power of sin and filling our lives with joy and gladness. When we find our satisfaction in Christ, we are no longer driven by the fleeting pleasures of the world but are anchored in His eternal love. This satisfaction in Jesus transforms our hearts, leading us to live in a way that reflects His character and priorities. By seeking satisfaction in Christ, we experience a deep sense of fulfillment and contentment that transcends our circumstances. [10:09]
Psalm 90:14 (ESV): "Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days."
Reflection: In what areas of your life are you seeking satisfaction outside of Christ? How can you intentionally pray for Christ to be your ultimate source of satisfaction today?
Day 5: The Supremacy of Christ in a Distracted World
In a world filled with distractions, Hebrews 2:1 calls us to pay closer attention to Christ's supremacy. By focusing on Jesus, we find our anchor and hope, preventing us from drifting away. The supremacy of Christ is a central theme in the book of Hebrews, reminding us of His divine authority and preeminence over all creation. In a culture that constantly vies for our attention, it is essential to prioritize our relationship with Christ and recognize His lordship in every aspect of our lives. By acknowledging His supremacy, we are empowered to live with purpose and conviction, grounded in the truth of who He is. [11:21]
Colossians 1:17-18 (ESV): "And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent."
Reflection: How can you intentionally acknowledge and celebrate the supremacy of Christ in your daily life? What specific actions can you take to ensure that He remains the central focus amidst the distractions around you?

Hebrews 2:1 serves as a pivotal scripture, urging us to pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away. This passage is particularly relevant as we navigate a world filled with digital media, social platforms, and entertainment vying for our attention. The supremacy of Christ, as highlighted in Hebrews 1, calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, our only hope, and anchor in heaven.
Drifting away from Christ is a subtle yet dangerous path. It requires no effort to drift, as the current of this world naturally pulls us away from God. However, the Holy Spirit is at work, awakening a desire within us to refocus and fix our gaze on Jesus. This awakening is a sign of hope, urging us to engage with the Word and let it transform our hearts and minds.
In my personal journey, I shared how I encountered Jesus through the scriptures, even in the early hours of the morning. By immersing myself in the Word, I witnessed Jesus' love for children, His teachings on the impossibility of salvation without God, and His call to servanthood. These encounters with Jesus in the scriptures are not just intellectual exercises but transformative experiences that anchor us in His love and purpose.
The key to the Christian life is not found in our labor for Jesus but in our continual gaze upon Him. As we see Him, our hearts are opened, and we are drawn closer to Him. This is a call to pray earnestly for our eyes to be opened, to see Jesus in His glory, and to be satisfied in His steadfast love. Sermon Clips
This text says it is more exceedingly necessary to get heed, fix your eyes on Jesus. He's your only hope. There's another beautiful image later on in chapter 10 where it says we have an anchor in heaven. So the anchor is in the temple in heaven, hooked Over The Mercy Seat. [00:02:09]
If you take your eyes off of him, if you don't focus on him, you become like a little leaf or dead fish, and you just float the way the river is going. And the river is not flowing toward heaven in this world. It's flowing the other direction. So you don't have to work hard to go to hell. [00:02:39]
The good news, the sign of Hope For You Drifters, is that right now while I'm preaching, God is Awakening a desire not to be a Drifter. Some of you are sitting there, you know you're a Drifter. You haven't read the Bible in a long time. It's a hit and miss Affair. [00:03:16]
Drifting is deadly in the Christian Life. Pay close attention to what you've heard, consider what God is saying. Let me illustrate for you. I get up at three o'clock this morning. There's no brag. It's four o'clock in the afternoon my time. I'm still in Uganda. I couldn't sleep. [00:04:15]
I met Jesus. I saw the first thing I saw was, suffer the little children to come to me. These disciples were all kind of chilling out of here. It's got more important things to do than children. And Jesus says, let those children come to me because to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. [00:04:47]
I saw Jesus loving these little children, and then I read further into the story about the Rich Young Ruler and I heard Jesus say it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom. And The Disciples put their hands in their heads. [00:05:58]
With man it is impossible, but not with God because all things are possible with God and I saw Jesus. All things are possible with God and then I read on you the next paragraph and Jesus looks at him he says I'm going up to Jerusalem and the son of man will be delivered. [00:06:12]
I saw Peter and James saying who's going to be the greatest in the Kingdom. Jesus looks at them and says, get it if you would be great you must be the servant of all if you would be first among them you must be the slave of all because the son of man came not to be servant. [00:06:45]
I prayed for half an hour that I would see Jesus this morning that you would see Jesus. That's a, folks, this text that we are called upon to see Jesus to listen to Jesus to consider Jesus to fix our eyes on Jesus and therein lies the key to the Christian Life. [00:08:12]
If you see him, if he does for you what he did for that blind man you opened your eyes, you can't leave, can't leave him, and if you haven't seen him pray that your eyes would be opened, that's what this text is about when I was in Kenya we could go now God was so good. [00:08:39]
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love that we may rejoice and be glad all the days of our lives and it hit me like a ton of bricks that God inspired the psalmist to pray for satisfaction from the Lord. Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love. [00:10:03]
I'm looking to you I'm not looking to sex, I'm not looking to money I'm not looking to health I'm not looking to Family I'm not even looking to effective Ministry satisfy me in the morning with your steadfast love, pray that prayer, and then just keep looking. [00:10:38]
