Reflecting God's Image: Our Purpose and Stewardship
Summary
In today's gathering, we explored the profound truths found in Psalm 9, which calls us to give thanks to the Lord with all our hearts and to proclaim His wonderful deeds. This morning, we focused on the doctrine of man, understanding our unique creation in the image of God and the implications of this truth in our lives. We are reminded that being made in God's image is a privilege that sets us apart from all other creations, granting us inherent dignity and worth. This privilege calls us to reflect God's nature, emphasizing the sanctity of human life and the equality of all people before God.
We also discussed the position humanity holds in creation, being made a little lower than the angels and entrusted with the stewardship of the earth. This responsibility requires us to care for creation and each other, recognizing our role as caretakers of God's handiwork. Furthermore, we delved into the purpose of mankind, which is to glorify God and make Him known. Our lives are meant to be a testament to God's goodness, and we are called to live in a way that honors Him.
Understanding the doctrine of man helps us discover our divine purpose, appreciate ethics and morality, and recognize the significance of humanity in God's creation. It also equips us to address social and cultural implications and facilitates spiritual growth. As we reflect on these truths, we are reminded of our need for God's grace and the transformative power of His love.

Quotes
In Psalm 9, it says, I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart, and I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you, and I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. [00:22:38] (15 seconds)
Anthropology is simply the study of the nature, the origin, and the purpose of man as the creation of the triune God, who created us in his image with divine meaning and purpose. Now, you can go to any denomination, whether it's the Southern Baptist Convention, whether it's the Independent Baptist, you can go to just any church, really, and they'll have a doctrine of man statement. [00:40:55] (28 seconds)
We learn not just about our nature, we learn about our purpose and our meaning. And then secondly, it helps us with our view of God and our need for God, and most importantly, because of sin, our need for salvation. See, the truth is, man is the greatest enigma in all of creation, because we're capable of amazing feats, accomplishing great things. [00:42:46] (28 seconds)
And yet, because of sin, we're also capable of the most immoral and sinister things imaginable. Like, for example, what happened a little over a year ago in Israel when Hamas attacked them. It just boggles the mind of how wicked man can be, and yet, how good he can be. [00:42:54] (25 seconds)
And what this teaches us is that man is special in God's creation. Unlike any other entity in creation, he's uniquely planned with meaning and purpose and priority. Mankind is the center of God's universe. We are the apple of his eye. We are the single most important creation in the creation. [00:42:59] (26 seconds)
Genesis 1, 26 and 27 says it this way. God said, let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, that they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals and over all creatures that move along the ground. So God created mankind in his own image. In the image of God, he created them. Male and female, he created them. [00:44:38] (25 seconds)
It means that mankind has an inherent dignity and worth because each person reflects God's nature. That is, we are image bearers of the Creator, which, by the way, is the basis for the sanctity of human life. This is why life is important, because we are made in his image. [00:45:43] (22 seconds)
And so what does this mean? It means that being made in God's image expresses his ownership and his possession of all mankind. But even more importantly, that we have a special place. And since God has created men and women in their own image, both genders are equal in standing before God. [00:46:17] (20 seconds)
We are all created in the image of God. It has nothing to do with pigmentation. It has nothing to do with how much money is in your bank account or how little money is in your bank account. It has nothing to do with whether you live on the right side of the tracks or the left side of the tracks. We are all equal in the image of God. [00:47:18] (23 seconds)
We are valuable to God. He loves each one of us with an unconditional love. There is no greater love that you can express, that you can experience than I can experience because God loves each of us so much that he laid down his life to give us life. [00:47:38] (19 seconds)
This is what it means to be created in the image of God. And it's a privilege. Second, mankind was created for position. If you look at Psalm 8, he says, you have made them, God, you have made them a little lower than the angels, and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands. [00:50:16] (22 seconds)
