Sermon Summary

True success in ministry is measured by the transformation of lives and personal growth in Christ-likeness. It is often seen in retrospect, as we celebrate the changes God has made in us and through us. This perspective shifts our focus from personal achievements to God's triumphs. [00:02:27]

Spiritual formation is about taking care of oneself in alignment with God's will. It involves introspection and ensuring our thoughts, feelings, and actions are in harmony with Christ's teachings. This process leads to a life where our actions naturally align with our beliefs. [00:08:11]

Solitude and silence are essential spiritual disciplines that help us detach from external pressures and focus on our inner spiritual health. In solitude, we learn to surrender control and allow God to transform us. This surrender is crucial for spiritual growth. [00:11:11]

Anger and greed in ministry often stem from unmet desires and leadership pressures. Recognizing and addressing these emotions involves surrendering our will to God and committing to honesty and integrity in our relationships. [00:36:12]

Memorizing scripture is a powerful discipline that helps integrate God's word into our lives. It restructures our minds and fills our thoughts with divine wisdom, enabling us to live in alignment with God's will. [00:19:18]

The person with the restored soul is the person whose life hangs together in the way it's supposed to. The things they believe they ought to do, they easily do them. The things that they believe they ought not to do, they easily not do them. [00:09:41]

Solitude is perhaps the most radical discipline for the person who's trying to begin in a proposive or intentional way about this. It's the only one that breaks the grip of all of the external stuff over you. [00:11:11]

The soul is not under our direct control. The great Shepherd song says, "He restores my soul." The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul. These are deep teachings about what we do. [00:09:29]

Spiritual formation when it's done in a Christ-like way is simply connecting with God and allowing him to bring vitality, health, goodness, love, joy, peace to those streams of thoughts and feelings that are running on inside me all the time. [00:14:42]

The vision of life in the Kingdom frees us from this. I don't have to do anything wrong. That's not among my resources. You know, I don't know if I've ever heard it put quite that way. [00:22:46]

The desire for more and the insatiability of the human appetite is just always present. It gets tricky for those of us who go into pastoral ministry. The desire for more can be money, reputation, or success. [00:42:38]

You have to take control of your time. You can only take control of your time if you really know what you're doing that's important. If you know what you're doing that's important in faith, then you can say no in terms of your time. [00:43:38]
