#TransformShameToGrace
“It will be just like the God who can transform shadows to rework Peter's greatest shame into a reminder of Christ's still greater grace. This is what he does. The power and character of Christ that other people experience in your shadow might be precisely in those bits of your life that Jesus is at work transforming and redeeming. Pastor Sharon's gonna come lead us in communion in a moment. But I wanna tell you, though we want to be changed by Jesus and that we want others to be changed by Jesus through us, it's not all on you to bootstrap your way to a life worth emulating.”

#WhatsInYourShadow
“I'll give you a moment to think on this because this is probably worth reflecting on, but what's in your shadow? What's in your shadow? I I don't mean what Enneagram number are you? What Myers Briggs profile are you. I mean, what do people in your shadow experience? How does it mark them? How does it change them? And if you're here this morning calling yourself a Jesus person, which many of us are, is your shadow of the details in the dark filled with the character and the power of Jesus? Maybe not miraculous healings. Peter is, after all, the only one in all of scripture where we hear about this, and this is the only time it's referenced for him.”

#ContagiousChristCharacter
“Because I love a good healing, but I have seen more people lean the weight of their lives on Jesus due to what we might call non miraculous power of Jesus' character conveyed through the lives of Jesus' followers. It is simply contagious. It's contagious. I wanna say if you are a follower of Jesus and you're experiencing his life in your life, if you're spending time with him, you're deliberately walking in his ways, practicing his ways, his spirit lives in you, you're seeing change, then you can expect that people in your shadow as it were will experience something of the character and power of Jesus. It might not be physical healing that experience, but it could be something just as important.”

#FollowJesusToday
“See, the Christian life isn't merely about a punching a ticket for the life that follows this one. It is firstly about following Jesus in this life. It's about becoming like Jesus. It's about living this life and in the life to come in his shadow. The historical sociologist Rodney Stark has done a lot of his career trying to chart the exponential growth of the church in the first few centuries. As an academic, he's deliberately doing this, trying not to make any recourse to like supernatural stuff.”
