Bible ReadingJob 19:25-27 “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”
[01:19]Job 42:1-6 “Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
[02:12]Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
[16:38]Mark 4:35-41 “And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
[09:06]Revelation 21:3-5 “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
[27:26]Observation questions- In Job 19, what does Job say he knows about his Redeemer, and what does he expect to happen even though his suffering is still going on? [01:41]
- In Job 42, what change is heard in Job’s words when he says, “My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you”? [03:06]
- In Mark 4, what did Jesus say before the storm started, and how did the disciples react differently from Jesus once the storm hit? [09:06]
- What examples show that God can still be at work during seasons when He seems quiet—such as Job, Joseph, Esther, and the day between the cross and the resurrection? [06:00]
Interpretation questions- Job says, “I know that my redeemer liveth” before anything changes, and later says, “now mine eye seeth thee.” What does that suggest about the difference between trusting God by faith and then encountering God more deeply? [02:57]
- Jesus said, “Let us go over to the other side,” and then a storm still came. What does that reveal about following the word of Jesus when circumstances seem to say the opposite? [09:16]
- Romans 8:28 says all things work together for good, but it does not say all things are good. How does that help a believer talk honestly about pain without giving up hope? [16:38]
- Revelation 21 says God will dwell with His people, wipe away every tear, and make all things new. How does that future promise shape the way present suffering is viewed? [28:06]
Application questions- Where does life currently feel most like Job 19 for you—where you need to say, “I know my Redeemer lives,” even though nothing looks fixed yet? What would trusting God before the circumstances change look like this week? [41:18]
- Silence is not God’s absence. When have you mistaken God’s quietness for abandonment, and what helps you remember that He is still active even when you do not hear much? [05:24]
- God often meets people in the storm, not just after the storm. What storm, pressure, or fear is exposing your need to remember what God has already done in your life? [12:26]
- The presence of God is greater than the answers of God. Is there a situation where you have mainly wanted an explanation from God? What might it look like to seek His presence there instead of only asking why? [14:27]
- A person with purpose can endure what would otherwise make them quit. What sense of calling, assignment, or responsibility from God has helped you keep going in hard seasons? [17:46]
- The area of deepest struggle can become a place where hope is offered to others. Has God used any painful part of your story to make you more able to encourage, understand, or serve someone else? [37:24]
- Because Jesus lives, suffering does not get the last word. When fear about the future rises up, what truth about the living Redeemer do you most need to say out loud and hold onto? [23:30]
